Change of plans, supercharged guys come in!
Okay so here's the deal, because of the way my life has been going recently I haven't had the time to finish my vortech build. I have had a lot of parts sitting around for some time now and I'm sick of looking at them so this is what my plan is. After having all this time to think, I don't want to tap my oil pan it's just not gonna happen. Also with all the people having problems shredding belts on centri setups it's making me think otherwise. Now I know most of you guys are gonna tell me to continue down the path I'm on but here's my idea.
I want to sell my centri parts and keep whatever I would need to do a PD blower. Whether it will be an eaton/torktech, or something like a Kenne Bell I'm not sure of yet. The reason I want to do this though is the ease of installation and you don't really have to hack your car apart to get stuff to fit. Mind you this is all in due time but I would save any money I get from selling my vortech and put it toward this. So here are my questions guys, what should I hang onto from my vortech build that could be re used and what will I need that's different if anything? I know I should keep my MAF, injectors, wideband, tank/pumps. Can I sell stuff like my intercooler and piping? Also what about thorttle body setups with a PD style blower. I'm pretty sure I'd have to get rid of my accufab and get an oval style? Please feel free to provide any info on this topic my minds kind of scattered right now and I'm sure I'm forgetting things.

Sounds like a dumb idea if you're already sunk money into those parts. Just take it to a reputable dyno/shop and have them tap the pan and tune it. There are options....

If thats what you want to do, do that. Consider the On3 setup? Youd have to tap the oil pan though.... What kind of MAF do you have? Keep the injectors, fuel pump, BAP. Dont need anything else.
How much would you sell the kit for? Seperate just the blower? My pops might be interested.

I'm only driving a bolt on GT myself but after carefully considering each of my options regarding adding boost to "MY" car... I've decided that I want to go with none other than a Kenne bell 2.1 intercooled supercharger kit.
Can't go wrong with a Kenne Bell... haven't watched a single video of a Kenne bell supercharged car on YOUTUBE that didn't make me have to change my pants soon after LMAO! |

the kb kit comes with everything and you can use the throttle body, maf, tanks/pumps (inj. if you wish). just the intercooler stuff won't work

To everyone above the only problem would be finding a used KB kit since they are so damn expensive. And I don't want to tap the pan because it seems like a lot of people who do it have some sort of leak somehow.

The kit I want is pretty expensive at literally $5k... NOT including install... a bit more for the KB kit than what I would probably spend for an on3 kit with upgraded turbo, K member installation and ect,... however... after test driving a pullied KB supercharged lightning I've just kinda lossed my mind and have been dying to hear that screaming deathly whine coming from under my hood... LOL
Seriously... I've driven built turbo cars before and they are a blast... but to feel that instant torque IMMEDIATELY from the twin screw KB and hear the whine at the same time... It sold me. =) |

You could always go with a Procharger unit or V3 unit. Both are self contained. Getting a used Tork tech or KB kit is a good idea, but will be alittle pricey. Just keep searching. Itll have to come down to if you want to sell the Vortech stuff, and happen to have a buyer (or the cash) at the same time someone throws up a used KB for sale. If thats what you want to do, do it. Dont put money into something that you dont think will satisfy you.

While a little more effort.
Why dont you buy one of these - Yes you have to lift the motor a little or lower the K to get it out. But then you wont have any leaks because the bug is part of the pan. Then you can plug it with the supplied plug if you ever go back to stock + you get the saftey of having more oil. (Also the link i provided is the cheapest on the market for a new one... garunteed )

Kenne Bells are good superchargers. You won't be disappointed with one. But they are also a lot more expensive. If your worried about the cost to finish what you have then you will be waiting a long time to get the KB.
Some people have the patience to piece together a supercharger kit and some don't. I'm one of the latter. That is why I bought a complete kit when I got mine. If I had tried to piece together a supercharger kit I would never have gotten it all together.

i dont see how you will come out saving ANY money at all since you have the majority of the vortech parts already and will be trying to sell them to get a PD blower bc new and used they are quite costly. Anyway here is a used kit from another site.

There is nothing wrong with centri's my buddy has a 00 gt stock bottom end with a v2-sq and methanol and he's putting down around 440.. The oil pan tap really isn't that big of a deal. But the KB is a badass s/c either way you won't be dissapointed
