got this info from another forum interesting read
Do you mean a Mustang 3V shortblock or a cast iron truck 3V shortblock? They are internally the same, but the Mustang block will be aluminum. Supposedly, the Mustang aluminum block has provisions for the older motor mounts, so that shouldn't be an issue. The only other thing I can think of that jumps out is if your Mustang has an 8 bolt cast iron crankshaft and a Windsor block (supposed to be a "X" as the 8th character in your VIN). All of the 3V engines have the 6 bolt crank. Flywheel issues are solved with money. The oil pump for the 3V engine is a different pump and it has a 15/16" opening where the pickup tube goes into it (I believe that is the Cobra diameter). The '99 2V has a 13/16" opening and won't fit. Buying a FRPP Cobra oil pump kit will give you a Cobra hi-volume pump and a Cobra pickup tube. Everything else will physically bolt on and run with all of the 2V components, but you may need 100 octane Sunoco Unleaded to run it safely. The 1999 PI 2V heads have a tiny combustion chamber (42cc) and came from the factory with a 17cc dish piston to keep compression about 9.5-1. The 3V-headed engines have a mini-dish piston (6cc) and a bigger 50cc combustion chamber for about 10-1 compression. If you put PI heads on that shortblock you will have nearly 12-1 compression. Great for n/a power, but forget any boost. Also, the factory 3V hypereutectics have a really high top ring and the top lip above the top ring is under 1/8" thick. Where the cut-out for the exhaust valve is located, the thickness is 1/16" thick. Even premium pump gas will cause pinging and will be almost a guarantee to snap that somewhere. I have included a pic I took of a new 3V piston to show you the issue (the ring land is in the middle of the gray band of
