It is not necessary to get a Cobra kit, when a $350 upgrade on your EXISTING stuff will stop you 100% as well.

1999-04 Mustang GT/V6 Complete Slotted Short Stop Brake Rotor And Pad Kit at LRS - Same Day Shipping!
Toss on some stainless steel hoses, good fluid, and you're golden. It's the cheapest route I've found so far for some good stuff. |

he he
![]() Nice kit from Eddy, but is really not necessary to have fantastic brakes ![]() Hit up my Brakes Upgrade thread and save the expense on new rotors and put it toward the other items in my guide. Less cost, every bit as good stopping power and will withstand LARGE amounts of heat that they should never see anyway. Jazzer

I always heard with more power, you need more sufficient brake system but I guess I am wrong. Although I will need to replace some of that, I still think I should do some kind of upgrading..

"What brakes do is turn kinetic energy into heat. That's it" and "The brakes do not stop your car... the tires do!" (<-- nice little quotes from our own TGR)
If ones current brakes are capable of locking up the tires OR triggering the ABS system, the increased ability to slow down/stop can only be improved when that heat gets much higher or your tires grip is improved. At this point, the various parts of your braking system, including the fluid, can become overwhelmed with brake-fade (simple explanation) and, if taken to the extreme... your brakes will go bye-bye The idea of a cross-drilled and/or slotted rotor, is to help remove the heat created by repeated hard braking cycles ("normal" braking, heat will be dissapated well before this point). These items will also make the rotor more susceptable to cracking/warping, due to introducing weaker points to the material.Under normal DD duties, most cross-drilled and/or slotted rotors will be fine. Even in AX events, they should not have an issue, but may not be true of competative open-track conditions. In such a case as this, one needs to strongly consider going well beyond what I have recommended in my Brakes Upgrade guide. No matter how far you go with a brake upgrade, without proper tires for your conditions, they will be handicapped by lack of grip on the road. You want to stop fast... you need proper tires! Jazzer

Jar...I have actually read your brake guide several times...its very informative
however, not only willthe cobra brake setup be an improvement over my current setup, it will visually look pretty bad ass! Lol the car is by no means a drag or AX car...its just a fun street car that meanders to shows one in a while. I pm'd eddy back...sounds pretty legit so far. I really had no intention at all of doing brakes this winter but I was just able to land myself a job for after graduation and I wanna buy myself a present haha

Agreed that the Cobra brakes look better, but they will NOT stop you better than the upgrades in my guide
(again, simplified statement)They will be a bit more resistant to the build up of heat, but that is essentially it. They will really only be an improvement over my guide if the pads are of the same high-quality, the fluid is upgraded the same way and SS lines are installed at all four corners. This is a simplified statement and could be picked apart for lack of details, but covers the basics of improved braking. Test a car with the Brakes Upgrade against and an identically equipped completely OEM Cobra and willing to bet the Cobra will have issues of brake fade earlier than the other. Put those same pads, fluid and SS lines on the Cobra and results would flop-flip ![]() Jar
