alu drive shaft on an auto?

As the title says. Can I change to an alu drive shaft on my A/T GT?
And if yes, does it require alot of work?

I have heard you can just take the yoke off your current driveshaft and re-use it. Where are you planning on getting an aluminum driveshaft? I have heard interceptors had them, and most (if not all) of those were auto's, does anyone know if those are direct replacements?

Yes, I run an frpp on my car, although its a manual. Make sure you buy the correct one for an auto car. The job is easy, make sure you have 12 point shallow sockets. depending on your milage you may also want to replace the tail shaft seal in your trans.

I'd like to know for sure, because I'd love to pick one up from a junkyard for cheap.

Wikipedia says this:
"Ford used an aluminum metal matrix composite driveshaft for the 1993–2005 Police Interceptors as a measure to allow safe operation at over 150 mph (241 km/h), but it was more expensive than the regular aluminum driveshafts. Ford reintroduced the 3.55:1 rear axle ratio in the 2006 model year Police Interceptors, and set the speed limiter at 120 mph (193 km/h) to reduce the risk of driveline failure."

Where I plan on getting it? New from frpp I guess. Not many interceptors here (readne)...we have volvo, bmw and mercs for 'interceptors'.

I installed with my 4.10's as a measure to combat any vibrations caused by the gears. No noise and if I did just a drive shaft I doubt I would notice any difference from the factory shaft.
