Time for heads and cams, help please!!!

So my car wasn't running right and my mechanic diagnosed that one of the cylinder heads is cracked. So iv'e decided it time to buy some new heads and cams for the car . This car is my dd and i'm not planning on putting a s/c on it so what cams and heads would be the best for my application to give my car that extra power? and about how much would it cost to have heads and cams installed if any of you guys have had it done?

What else is done to the car? Nothing if you want to keep it streetable- get someone that knows what they are doing, maybe some mild cams in it, degreed, a good premium tune and leave it alone.

Depends. What you looking to spend? Any power goals?

Look to spend anywhere between 650-1200 depending on the shop.

Cheaper way would be some Stock PI heads, ported with some Stage II cams.

Very unlikely the head is cracked. More likely a blown head gasket. Have the actual heads been removed and magnafluxed?

I have not heard of the PI heads cracking.

Regardless, I have had a set of Patriot Performance Stage 2 heads on my '01 Roush from 18k miles to now 51k miles (odometer reading). Patriot sells their own cams (or at lease did) but I have a set of Houston Performance S292 cams. I have a D1SC @ 11lbs making 502rwhp.

Very doable. Here, check out MHS' head and cam packages. 300 is attainable with just cams and full bolt ons. With a set of nice ported heads, you'll get there with little trouble.

Nick McKinney, the owner of MHS, does some of the best work and I wouldn't hesitate from buying from him. He knows his shit and won't try and sell you something you don't need. I'd shoot him an email, tell him what you're looking for and he'll get back to you with a recommendation.

I've heard lot of good things about MHS as well, but if you're on a time constraint you might want to look into some off-the-shelf stuff. If you go custom porting and custom grinds on your cams you will be waiting a while.

You could give Modular Mustang Racing a call. I'm running a set of their ported PI heads (stage II). It took me about 2 weeks to get a set from them.
They'll sell you cams too.

You'll be able to wind the motor out to 6500+ rpms with ported heads and cams!

we compression tested two of the cylinders and they were well below the cr like the others. the car runs really bad and sounds like its cammed and when u gun it takes a while to get up there. He said it's either a bad head or bad piston. what do u think?
