I feel like the paint would just burn right off. I would just try to polish them up a bit

The paint may work if you used high heat paint? Just an idea

Neither. Have them jet coated.

Some high heat paint does work. Yes. Dont go to your local parts store and get it though. Any bodyshop should be able to get you some real high quality stuff if you go the painting route. Atleast this is what worked for me a previous time.

i just used some paint from the local advance auto and it worked great.

its high heat ceramic paint made for headers. withstands up to like 1200-1500 degrees i think. not cheap (around $12 a can) but its held up great.

I'd clean the rust off and wrap them with header wrap

Oh ya not bad at all. Polish them bad boys up OR dont even worry about. Not like you can see them anyway

Just do a Google search on "Jet Hot header rust"...it's common. You can clean it up with fine steel wool, but it does come back after a while. I clean mine about once a year or so, though the car only sees about 1,500 road miles a year and very rarely sees any rain. Still, the coating is far better at protecting the headers than any paint out there.

if they are not ss headers paint them, or leave them alone. polishing them willl just lead to more rust.
