And this has what to do with gears? =)

Possibly because your brake discs are warped.

Your rotors could be mis aligned.

With stock size tires that calculates to 6830 rpms. With room to grow?

There is more to it, but I posted a little bit about that here: auto questions

Also, consider that when you're in OD, a small friction material covered band is trying to translate the torque from the engine to the driveshaft. It was designed for part throttle cruising at stock power levels, not WOT with 400+ rwhp.

can you build your trans to handle WOT in overdrive? and im assuming a car with say 400 horsepower at the wheels has a higher top speed than it does with 200 obviously.

Not really. Why would you want to? OD is not meant for hard usage.

Once I hit fifth gear though, its like i engage the parachute and im pushing against being pulled. As someone else said, I'm terrified to go over 125 now so it doesnt bother me at all. Mine's more of a track car, but in short, yes, you can go over 105mph with 4.10's

BTW, all highway to the beach, with my built motor and 4.10's, AND driving spiritedly, i still averaged 27 mpg

Can't be that high im on an auto trans.
The O/d band cannot take it because it basically works like drum brakes to engage ..except its in fluid. When trying to hold it slips, kelvar will slip even more than a normal band. The rest of the tras (1-3 gears) uses clutch PLATES ...kinda like disk brakes . this is why you will nade it. I've done many into 4th gear but once i tuned i locked it out for good.

4-2 down shifts are bad because if the pressure is not finished releasing it creates a "park" type situation and you break the stub shaft.... you don't want a broken shaft.. you need that to haz horse powuz .

Straight from the overdrive band section of Jerry's article: "...unless you have an all out race setup, don't use kevlar..."

It's as simple as this...if you're going to play around, lock out OD first.
