You can heli-coil it but the best fix is a time-sert.

++ TIME-SERT Threaded inserts for stripped threads, threaded inserts, thread repair stripped sparkplug's, Ford sparkplug blowouts, threaded inserts threaded, repair stripped threads, stripped threads, inserts threaded inserts, Ford spark plug repair,

Time-Sert kit is the only option in my opinion, everything else is only half ass.

Here is the kit itself,

Tall do you use a torque wrench when installing your plugs?

I believe the torque is 18 ftlbs, and that is easily exceeded with a standard 3/8 ratchet. I tested it.

I've been told: get plugs tight. Then 1/4 turn more and perfect.

I bought the plug kit at ace hard ware. Autozone had one cheaper(bought that first) but t
I had to use a 1/2 drive and wouldn't fit in the plug wall. So I bought ace's and the 3/8 ext fit inside the repair kit and worked great.

My plug blew out with 2-3 minutes of owning my gt.

This one let's you use extensions instead of a socket. Which ext fit inside the plug holes.

The Modular Ford Motors are notorious for insufficient threads. The old tight +1/4 doesn't apply. According to my Haynes Manual, it's 7-14lb/ft of torque for the plugs. So I'd shoot the middle and go for 10.

I had a plug blow out of a 1992 Protege with the 1.8L Mazda SOHC (great motor btw) and a helicoil fixed it up right. If I were going with boost, I could see spending the extra money on a timesert, but if it's stock, the helicoil should be sufficient.

If I'm not mistaken, on the 4.6 SOHC, there are only a few threads in the block for the spark plugs, less than on the DOHC. If you don't torque it down enough, it'll blow out like you had happen, and apparently its a fairly common issue with this motor.

Factory torque spec is 18ft lbs. Always best to not over tighten them so you don't end up with warped or fouled plugs.

As for the repair, I would only use TIME-SERTs or another brand that uses the same method. Here's a kit, I believe the 14mm thread size is correct NEW TIME-SERT 14MM X 1.25 Spark Plug Repair Kit 4412E | eBay or if you already have the tap/die you could get just the inserts TIME-SERT 44181 SPARK PLUG TAPER INSERTS 14MM X 1.25X 7MM Q10 | eBay
