Last minute decisions, Opinions!

Okay so before I pull the trigger on a used 1st gen on3 system for about $1200 shipped I'm seriously considering getting the new forward facing system instead. I have a few questions though so let me know what you guys think.

First off, does anyone know if the forward facing system comes with things like injectors, intercooler, maf and that sort of stuff? These are all things I would have two of in that case and could sell to make the cost of the forward facing system about as much as the used 1st gen system would have cost me.

My second big question is k members. The forward facing system is designed around the upr k member. The original system uses the qa1. Can anyone who knows about or runs these kits tell me some pros and cons of the two? Very similar in price but are there any downfalls?

It not a first gen stainless on3 kit is it? If it is I would pass on it.

As far as I know, none of the on3 kits come with injectors or anything like that.

You're right I forgot about the injectors but I think at least an intercooler. About the kit I'm not sure if it's like one of the first ones made it's just the original design. Why do you say to stay away though?

early kits had some reported quality control/longetivity issues, plus the whole "comprimised" design ingeneral.

there would be no choice IMO, get the current, forward facing kit.

Casper that's what I'm leaning towards but I can't really drop all my cash on it. However I was thinking if I could sell some stuff and get some money back it would be do-able. Would the intercooler and bov that comes in the kit be worth anything sold seperately? Or is it kinda junk stuff?

when I was going to try their kit on my white car I intended to use them & was ok with it.

the only upgrade I was planning was the turbo itself.

Honestly - If it were me deciding, I would go with the forward facing kit. It's only a few hundred difference in price. I would rather bite the bullet and take the small hit on my wallet. There should be a noticeable performance difference to definitely make it worth while. Good luck though man.

Casper are there any advantages to upgrading the turbo? If the on3 70mm is working for a lot of folks I'll probably just stick with that since I'll probably never have a forged shortblock in this thing. I don't want tons of power but the ball bearing 67 seems like it would spool much quicker. I don't know if it's worth the extra 300 though for ball bearing.

MT, that's what I was thinking too. It just sucks cause I didn't plan on buying either new, I just found a good deal on a used one and started looking into it. If I can get a few hundre for the extra intercooler and bov and whatever else I'll have it would be worth it to me since I'd barely be spending more then the original 1200 I was willing to fork out for the used kit.

Totally off topic but nice FRC by the way too. Not a fan of how the roof on those/z06's look but the fact that they have the upgraded suspension and are pretty rare is kinda cool.

I was going to upgrade the turbo to be able to launch the car better at the track & not have to worry about a small shot/etc to spool up.

Okay so you'd benefit since you're a hardcore drag guy. Seeing as this will be my daily for quite some time now and I don't race it much unless some punk tries messing with me while out driving I guess the standard kit will be exactly what I need. I guess I'm gonna tell the guy I'm not interested in the used kit any longer then.

Even though the forward facing system is only $2000 I just realized I can still sell the MAF and intercooler of the used kit I'm looking at which would bring the total cost to under a thousand bucks. Really contimplating getting the used one still since it's been proven on the on3 car. I just want my car to be reliable and not run into problems basically and I don't know if forking out another grand is gonna help me at all.

I almost traded my vortech for the on3 setup. The old kit. Plenty of people have shown they work fine. Say in a year or something you want to upgrade to the forward header design, you can send your old hot side piping and I believe its $800 to on3 and have the forward facing header design.

That's good to know. That still makes it cheaper then buying the forward facing system new, however they say it's designed around a different k member so now I'm lost on what to do

I've "heard" of people using the Upr k member on both setups. Without issues.

you need the 3/8" k member spacer to run the upr k member with the original kit.

i remember the guy on corral ran the upr k member and the hot pipe rubbed the bar that goes across the k member where the a arm tabs are. installed the spacer and pretty sure he said it was still tight but didn't leak any more.

^ I know exactly who you're talking about that guy inspired me to go with on3 actually I'm trying to avoid the problems he ran into in his build thread on svtp. I guess I'm just gonna buy the used kit and qa1 and call it a day. Guy says he has all upgraded v bands and stuff too because he had the whole battle of the leaks problem. He said he was leak free but he had an exhaust shop do it. Made 42x on his bullitt. I'd like the forward facing system but honestly it's breaking the bank but it woulda been possible with taxes coming back soon.
