lots of questions
Hey everybody I'm new to the forums from Colorado. Just wanted to say how much I love this website and how friendly everyone is.
I hope posting all these questions will be okay, and some if not most of them will seem like stupid questions to the car guys but thats because I'm not that great with cars and want to start working on my car, visually for now mainly because I'm a college student so I dont have much money lol. So I've seen nice white mustangs on here that has inspired me to achieve a similar look and to get started with the visual mods. Oh yea, I have a 2001 white mustang gt, stock everything except for the exhaust/mufflers i think, 68k miles, automatic transmission. What I want to do the cheapest way possible. ( i know i know) Get a cowl hood, but I want to know avg price of one, and other then it looking completely badass what its function is. I want to lower the car but thats probably the last thing I want to do because I'm not sure what i would need to do it or even how expensive it is. I saw on ebay lowering springs for like 90bucks but I dont think thats all I would need. I want to black out the license plate housing area if thats what its called. and maybe black out the mustang part below the license plate area and even that general area. I saw some picture of what I want around the forums somewhere, and maybe smoke the taillights to go with the black look but maybe not. Is there a specific name to the wheels I have on my car? because I have an extra set of them, and you can see that in my introduction thread, but I want the saleen wheels blacked out. I'm thinking plasti dip can do the above two from what I think i've read around here. And I also want to replace stock front bumper with the 03-04 cobra bumper, but again, not sure on price and how it would fit. Oh yea as well as 6k HIDs on heads and fogs but again not sure on finding good cheap ones and how thats done. I have pictures of extra springs and struts, tires and wheels the guy I bought the car off of on my introduction thread, and wondering if I should sell those and how much I could get for that, as well as value of parts that i replace and how much I could sell those for. I know thats a lot of information and questions but I'm hoping I can get some help Thanks a lot in advance.

Welcome! Holy questions batman.
First nice car. Second do you want looks or performance? Check out this website americanmuscle.com it has most of the answers that you want. I would sell the left over shit from the last guy and lower that ride with some springs and struts from American Muscle. The cowl will probably run you roughy 500. function is to clear large intakes mostly. they can also let heat out. |

I saw a cowlhood on craigslist for 300bucks not painted, and I have a great mechanic who does everything and anything for super cheap, hes a really smart kid.
and the cobra bumper I was talking about the front for the foglights this is a great picture of how i like it. http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs034...._6311355_n.jpg and as far as parts go I wanna find cheap ones, ebay maybe?

so for lowering a car you just need to replace the stock springs with aftermarket ones or is there a process to it?
And would the cowl hood help with performance at all because it is functional as far as letting air get in/heat get out right? But putting a cowl hood, and the cobra front bumper would just be taking out the ones on the car now and putting them on? I ask that because I wonder if theyll fit good. and let me try to find a good picture of what i want as far as the black parts, and I prefer not to buy stuff from like websites because in my opinion its really expensive as opposed to craigslist, or ebay.

I sold a cowl hood for $300 not too long ago. Look on corral.net. its another forum for mustangs and they seem to have a lot more stuff for sale. Also if you plan on tinting your tails and blacking out yourrear valence the you should also tint your headlights or else it will look kinda goofy.

For lowering your car, buy the springs of your choice. Have a shop install them for you and get an alignment done while you are there. If your car cannot align with the stock plate you will need to buy caster camber plates to get the tires to align correctly.
As for the cowl hood, its more form then function. It does let heat out though which is always good. The cobra bumper/cowl hood should fit good. But it all really depends on the quality of the product. |

Hahaha I think there is a limit to how much you can rep.
![]() But the plasti dip is pretty awesome. You can pick it up at your local hardware store and its a spray on rubber. You can peel it off if you dont like whatever you sprayed it on and it goes back to original condition. |

lowering springs for your car, if you get eibach which is your best bet your looking at $240 maybe a little less depending on where you get it. cowl hood are just awesome thing is tho u still got to paint it after you buy it so ur looking at over $500 for the hood and a good paint job.

Welcome! I'm a college student too so I understand the budget thing lol with that said...
As the others have said, the cowl will run you about $500 but that isn't counting paint which will probably be around another $400-500. The Cobra bumper looks badass! but be wary of the pre-primered ones off ebay. My friend has one and it looks great but we had some problems with the fit and never really got it quite right. Again, paint will be about $300 on the bumper. Tinting your taillights is an easy way to make a huge difference in looks and I chose a vinyl 3-piece kit from Stangmods.com. It ran me $60 IIRC. My moms car has VHT Nightshades on the tails and it is more of a flat black look compared to my gloss look. There is a honeycomb panel from AM for $150 (Too much IMO). And the last question I can answer knowledgeably is lowering ![]() I lowered my car on H&R SuperSports springs and Koni STR.T shocks and struts. I also added Maximum Motorsports caster/camber plates because they are needed to get the car back into alignment after a drop of more than 1.5in (and even that is pushing it) and the SuperSports are closer to a 2in drop (you can see the stance my sig) I installed them myself and spent about $800 in parts. It changed the look and handling of my car drastically for the better and was one of the best mods I've done ![]() Good luck and post pics when you do these so we can see 'em!

wow soo many things, but yea as i said i have an awesome mechanic who does good work with paint and body work as well so i need to see how much paint would run me.., because i would take the cobra front bumper over the hood.
as far as lowering.., paying 250bucks for springs instead of say 90-100bucks on ebay would do what? sorry if i seem like im repeating myself i think its just hard for me to grasp and understand some things such as what a 2indrop is compared to a 1.5in drop it doesnt seem like to me that it would be such a drastic change in appearance. But I dont want to spend more then 250bucks to lower the car as that is something i'd want to hold off on, but say I just get the springs, i just replace stock springs with the new ones and the car suddenly drops? and ill edit this post with the pictures of the area i want to plasti dip places , oh yea! as far as the wing goes maybe plasti dip the wing as well or remove it? Because I saw a picture somewhere of a black wing, and black taillights, license plate area and that mustang area all blacked out with black Saleen wheels and lowered and I was in love with it. And i just looked for how to remove the wing it seemed simple, just unscrewing it from the inside of the trunk?

The aftermarket springs you buy are going to be shorter then your stock springs so when you swap them out your car will sit lower. OR you can go the cheap route and take your stock springs off and cut about a coil or so off of them.
As for removing the wing. I have been debating the idea aswell. I think im just going to leave mine on though. I somewhat like it wingless but I think it would get old after awhile. I dunno, but when you unscrew it and take it off you will have two holes in your truck from the wing. |

the eibach springs drop you 1.5 in. that will be plenty for you most likely, just look at pictures online of ppl who used them. $90 to $100 springs, im not sure about idk what kind they are. the good thing about eibachs is that your car pretty much drives like its stock and the suspension is still very good and you have less body roll, plus the good stance. and yes just replace stock springs with the new ones.
