S197/New Edge Rear Assemby Swap Question

Has anyone swapped a complete rear assembly from an S197 into a New Edge?

Curious to what/how much modifications are necessary.

I'm not sure but I would think it'd be much easier to swap the rear from a sn95 or another new edge seeing as they are all (fox-s197) 8.8 rears anyway...

you have to set up a panhard bar mounting point on the chasis as well as the upper third mount to the chasis somewhere. No sense in that trouble for an 8.8 when its what comes in our cars

I'm curious because there is a Ford Racing, 05-09 complete rear with decent street stuff available for a little over $1200. I like the way my car's rear is set up now and would like to keep it as is for later use. I've just never spent any time under an 05 up chassis and couldn't get an answer on this from Ford.

Not a soul close to where I live with a newer Mustang to crawl under.

Yes, I got it. Just trying to explain why. My original post did come across like a not-so-sensible 8.8 for an 8.8 swap. You know the old saying, "Go by what I'm thinking, not what I'm saying."

only thing that would work on a new edge is the differential itself. Everything else is different. You can build a rear end for half that cost and be just as strong or stronger

My old set up was a truck 8.8 track loc, cobra clutches, us alloy axles. After a few small nick nacks, I think I had 500 bucks in everything, it took a beating for 3yrs and never missed a beat. 1.4 sixty foots off a trans brake, two step and a 100 shot

It has a decent gear in it now, but there are times it could use a little more. It's nice and quiet and has strength parts. Combined with swapping complete rears is pretty darn simple with the fact that there is nobody close I would be comfortable with setting up a new gear, I've considered having two assemblys.

What would be perfect is a quick change assembly to switch back and forth. Remember the old Franklins? Maybe a Ford 9 inch, it's almost a quick change.

What I need to do is learn proper gear install procedures. I've studied on it many times, just never done it. There certainly would be many trial and errors to learn the little secrets the pros have discovered. It's like everything else----99 ways to do it wrong and one best way to do it right.

I need to pick up a cheap, stock complete rear just to do that with.
