Iron or Aluminum block

Well, Im getting a supercharger in a few weeks. Right now i have a chance to get a stroker kit very cheap along with other goodies. Only thing is i have to use my block which is still in my car and im out of town and can not pull it till i return. Which can be a very long time. ( Oil & Gas job ) My car is a 03. Would it be smarter to stick with my iron block or buy a used aluminum block they have sitting around so that it can be machined, ported and installed?? I know aluminum block heat faster but also they displace it faster then an iron block would. Give me some pros and cons if you dont mind? What is better? Thanks again guys.

EDIT: Stroker Kit is a Manley Rotating assembly 10.5 Dish Pistons

I'd go alm just to save on weight. But I'm not educated enough to answer what's better for sc and strojed. Wait for someone else to chime in.

aluminum blocks are just as strong as their iron counterparts. if you have it in the budget, definitly get an alum. block.

Alum block + Tubular K and A's = very light front end.

yea, direct swap, no difference in the blocks other than material, and a few different ribs in the casting.

Depends if you care about weight savings. I really don't and im getting an iron block for mine. It's all preference and what your build calls for.

If I can afford it when my build time comes, I'll be getting a aluminum if I can afford it. I'm not going to sweat it a whole lot.

Personal opinion though - if you're carrying around some extra weight yourself, consider loosing that weight before having the engine loose some. You'll get better handling, accel/decel, just like the lighter engine, but will get some health benefits too

I wont be upgrading much after i put the kit in.
Im getting the stroker manly kit comes with crank, supercharger w/intercooler and blower cams from mhs. Fuel systems, small things here and there. Keeping stock heads, will have them worked. Still on the fence for a new intake manifold. 31 spine rear end with 3.73s. Will swap driveshaft out for alumn, also getting my t45 trans rebuilt. Will call it done from there.

Actually the iron is stronger than the aluminum. But the strength limit is up in the 800-1000hp range, so it's something only a very few people are going to need to worry about.

Just remember Teksid is stronger than the WAP.

You also may or may not need to drill a hole or two for an oiling passage if you're re-using the 2v heads. I recall someone else mentioning it when doing a Teksid 2v.

Interesting...

I wont be doing 800hp. Did some research after you mentioned drilling the hole. Its true, but is that IT? Anything else that might not fit?

That's it as far as I know.

Think about it in terms of reciprocity. The Teksid goes in the 96-99 Cobras no problem. It also matches up to the 4v C heads on the 99 Cobra, and those same heads match up to the 03 Cobra who uses a Romeo iron block. If all that mixing and matching works, yours should be fine.
