i think i got screwed on this motor

i bought a 90K mile motor off ebay. was said to be "tested, inspected and runs very good." i put a new timing chain and guides in it and when i got it installed and im pretty sure the damn think has a rod knock. i thought it was a dent in the oil pan hitting rods when i installed it. but the shape of oil pan turns out to be normal. how should i go about contacting the seller and/or ebay. id like to keep the engine and do an underhaul on it. rod and mains. total of about $150 bucks in parts. rod bearings and bolts, main bearing and bolts, and oil pan gasket.

Was there warranty on it? Contact them and PayPal. Go from there. May be worth it to just throw 150 at it and replace it. Saved some time. But in other hand got screwed.

Maybe its something with the valve train components that you changed?? Make sure its in the bottom end..if so good luck cause your going to have hell probaly..they pull those motors from wrecked cars and sell them on ebay and they usually cant check them cause the car is screwed up or no keys or bad battery and such and they just assume it ran fine since it was on the road when it got in a wreck...which is usually correct but some people drive with rod knocks lol

My friend bought a motor for his camaro. Dropped it in and had a knock. Drove it for a week until he blew it. On purpose since it had a warranty. Guy came and picked it up and have cash refund.

Pay Pal will force them to give your money back!! contact seller and see what they say if they wont work with you tell them to suck it, and call paypal. I bought something from a member on here a few months ago I paid, then nothing ever showed up. three weeks later when thier bank account was short cause paypal took the money back they got the part to me in a hurry. Always use pay pal simply for the protection.

Contact the seller and maybe workout a deal. Since he did say it worked and ran perfect he must back that up. Since it isnt working fine its false advertisement and paypal will work with you for a refund if you two cant work out a deal.

I worked for my cousin's Autoparts business and ran his ebay account. Paypal always favors the buyer.

not necessarily true, i had a set of pistons that i bought on ebay that were SCREWED up badly that were supposed to be like new diamond's .020 over. i ended up getting a full refund.

paypal normally requires you to ship it back to them though, which with an engine would SUCK, and i believe you are responsible for that. call the seller and try to work it out is my suggestion.

I wanna work out a deal with the guy, I wanna keep the motor, I only paid 1000 for it complete, since it will need rod bearings, I'd be happy with getting about 300 back to cover parts and labor pulling the engine back and and going back in. I'd say that's very fair on his end.

Yea spitball repairing is easy... But what if the crank is grooved and then it needs to be cut .010.... What if its a hard spun bearing and the bearings have stacked on each other and screwed the big end on the rods and then you need reconditioned rods... Then theres the fact that he could of known and all those little chunks and bearing material is circulating through the motor tearing up everything or clogging the oil pump pick up starving the engine of oil...

I would try to full refund it, or get more then a 1/4 of the selling price back.

If you send the entire motor back I have one that runs without a knock I am offering to members on here. If nobody wants it I will sell it to the junkyard for $400. So it's really cheap. It definately will at least need a lifter and I believe an oil pump. If you don't want it I really don't care because I planned on getting $400.

Going into the motor most likely voided the warranty. Kind of curious why the timing chain was messed with----90k isn't enough to wear one out normally.

Put a video clip on here with the engine running. Someone may be able to identify the noise.
