Rebuild transmission?
Hello, Im new to this forum. I have a 2004 GT and am working on building my car. I am planning on starting on the rear of the car and working my way forward. The goal is a respectable 450hp range, not quite sure how im gonna get there yet. It will see road courses and autocross tracks. So to get to the point, my next step is my transmission. I have the stock manual transmission and I cannot decide whether to rebuild or buy a new transmission. I will be doing all the work myself so take that into consideration in thinking about the price. Ive rebuild two camaro 4l60e automatics but have never touched a ford transmission let alone a standard one, which is supposed to be easier... Are there any good sites for rebuild kits that will help support my power? Thanks

If you're going to road race/auto x, I would strongly recommend buying a T56 6spd...

That's what I planned at first, but then I got to thinking, do I really need that 6th gear. I'm sure the ratios for the first 5 gears would be a lot more friendly at the track. Will the t-56 give me more reliability?

The t56 is good for 700tq atleast and all around pretty awesome. You could also look into d&d performance. They have a road race version of a tko600 with some upgrades to make it less notchy feeling. The tko will be a little cheaper but you'll have no overdrive for off the track. Either way better than the tr3650 you have now. Good luck with the build

There are some performance 3650's out there. Promotion Powertrain is one off the top of my head, there probably others out there as well. I don't have any first hand experience with any of them though but that is the way i'm planning on going when the time comes. I think the time is coming soon

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping there would be a bigger desire to have the tr3650 built up but it sounds like if I'm gonna put money into a transmission, then don't waste time with the tr3650 and just save up to get a t-56. I'll will still check out promotion powertrain. Thanks for the suggestion.
