Granny Tranny

I finally took my car to a local transmission shop to get the front seal that was leaking looked at. I dropped it off last friday at close and I got a call around 10 am this morning. The $350 job turned into a $1800 rebuild. My 4R70W was kinda sluggish and I guess metal shavings and a bunch of sludge in the pan makes a bad recipe and a "granny tranny".

. I wont complain because this calls for some possible upgrades. I plan on adding gears and a blower sometime in the near future. 400hp is my goal. Any ideas?

better 3-4 clutches, stall it good, and get a handheld if you dont have one. Can adjust line pressure and shift points with it. Transbrake if you really want to go all out, lol. Dunno if they will do it, but look into a J-mod. google it.

don't really have to upgrade anything to handle 400 so thats always good lol. but i'd probably look into some kind of performance rebuild that would let you upgrade a little. although you really don't have to. my car probably makes around 430ish and upper 400's rwtq and the 4r70w takes it like a champ. i personally LOVE my fairbanks shift kit and it even comes with the spiral snap ring for the sprag retainer. and you drill a hole in the pump if your doing a rebuild. and a few other things. comes with 1 or 2 billet servo pistons. anyway, its a great kit.

i would most definitely get a higher stall converter installed at the same time. and last but not least a trans cooler

Anyway, yes, definitely get a bigger stall. Other than that the 4R70 can handle 400 no problem.

1,800$! F that just buy a used tranny and be done with it lol.

sure would be cheaper. get a used trans and a converter and still be way under 1800
