Stroker piston question.
So I'm doing a stroker build with saleen/kellogg 3.800" crank and saleen/manley 5.850" rods. Now regarding pistons, I've been told a few diferent things. One person has told me something about there being a support rail since the wrist pin intersects the oil ring on the pistons. The support rail is there to keep the engine from consuming oil. I contaced Excessive Racing about having a set made for me and was told that the oil support rails are necessary for any piston with a CD lower than about 1.215 on a 4.6L Engine. This particular piston will use a 1.175" CD. The oil rail support will support the oil ring in the area that has been removed to let the pin be installed.
I also contacted MMR about having a custom set made and said about the oil support rail. Now they told me the pistons they would have made would not use the oil support rail bevause its a horrible design. I'm currently waiting for a pm back from Mark over on corral asking how their piston design would not need the support rail. I was hoping anyone could shed some light on this because Im not sure exactly who is right here and who isn't.

Personally, I've seen the support rail design and I don't like it. A guy I work with runs them in his Fox body Outlaw car. It's fast, but he replaces engines due to piston issues every month it seems like. Not a big fan.

Yea, that's what I'm concerned with. I'm not trying to have to take my motor apart not long after getting it together to replace a piston or 8.
MMR said their design doesn't utilize the support rail, so I'm curious to see what their design is like to where it works with the saleen crank and rods.

I'm actually using the saleen built pistons with my stroker kit and they don't use the support rail. I guess I'd tend to lean toward mmr's opinion on the subject, but that's just me. For what it's worth, I haven't fired mine up yet , much less put a lot of miles on it to know what the durability is. Just a thought.

Yea, MMRs sound like they'd be better to go with. Plus its cheaper than my other option by almost $200.
