Trouble shifting into 1st from neutral
This may not be an issue but has got me wondering about my clutch and transmission. When I am in stop and go traffic, I usually put the car in neutral when I'm at a standstill for a minute or two instead of keeping the clutch in. When I go to put it back in first from neutral, it is sometimes very difficult. However, when I go from second to first, it is completely normal and synchronized. I have the clutch pressed in all the way, so I don't have it partially engaging. I have noticed that there is some heat built up around my e-brake when in stop and go traffic. Could the additional heat from traffic cause the clutch to heat up and cause this? Maybe I need to adjust the clutch? I changed the fluid with Mercon V when I put the MGW on a month or so ago, but it was doing this before I changed all of that. If any of you have any ideas let me know. Thanks!

That just happens sometimes when you idle it for a while. I use synchomesh and have no problems anymore.

Well I guess it's normal then. lol I have noticed a slight 2-3 grind when shifting quickly when it's first warming up. Maybe I should go ahead and switch to synchromesh. Pennzoil right?

Alright, so I guess instead of taking the shifter back off, I need to get a hand pump. You used any that you'd recommend?

Take the shifter off. Its very easy and you will save yourself a lot of headache and mess.

I put in 3.2 of the Mercon V, guess the trans just doesn't care for it.

Doing some googling on this synchromesh- they say not to run it in t45 transmissions as the seals are organic material versus other transmissions that are kevlar based?
Also based on numerous threads including this one http://mustangforums.com/forum/oil-a...id-in-t45.html our T45 transmissions call for ATF not Mercon V. Isn't Mercon V an automatic transmission fluid? I could be wrong. Again, this is just simple googling here.

TheOdessa, I have the Crimson Trace laser that's in your sig on my .380. That thing is sweet, the pistol is a piece of shit though.
Off topic, I know. Sorry.

LOL Which .380 do you have? I own an LCP.
The pistol is a PF9. Not a Keltec fan?

F8L GT- Like I said, just simple googling. What's the difference between standard ATF and Mercon V? I remember when I had an automatic Ford Explorer, I had to run Mercon V in it, nothing else.
WishIhad- A lot of people do not like Keltecs. I can see why - they are cheaper, and tend to break after a lot of use. Just around 900 rounds the slide developed a crack. Shortly after the firing pin broke. Keltec send parts for both 100% free of charge. It's still my favorite gun though. Light, compact, and has a nice little kick to it. It just requires a bit more TLC then other guns. My LCP can be fired, dropped, and abused with no probs.

They have different ingredients in them but both are automatic transmission fluids. The older cars take ATF where newer ones take Merc V. Both of which can be ran in a manual

back on topic.... I had mercon v in my 3650 for a summer and hated it...it wanted to nibble 2-3 and it seemed to growl more. The synchromesh has made it buttery at any operating temp

"Ensure the correct automatic transmission fluid is used. Transmission fluid requirements are indicated on the dipstick or on the dipstick handle. MERCON and MERCON V are not interchangeable. DO NOT mix MERCON and MERCONt V."

Well it was an all around ATF. Probably was a mistake. I had it around the house and was sure it would work after referring to my manual. Maybe I misunderstood it. It shifts like butter until the stop and go traffic begins and the heat goes up.
Just on a side note, what are the signs that a clutch needs adjustment? (for future reference) Is it mostly the engagement point?

It kind of sounds like the clutch isnt completely disengaging. If you have the stock pedal stuff, try to pull up on the pedal to tighten the cable. The stock clutch pedal has some ratchet thing so you can remove any slack, not the best setup you can have but not too bad of a trick from ford.
