X-pipe.....to cat or not to cat...that is the question...

I'm looking to get more flow and runble from my 03 GT. I currently have a Pype's cat-back with violator mufflers. It's 2.5". I want to get an x-pipe next and need some advise. I don't necessarily have a problem taking the stock off and on each year to pass NY inspections...but do I need to? I'm going to go with Pypes again, I love their product so far. Are the hi-flow cats better than stock? Are the hi-flow much more restrictive in flow and sound than an X w/o cats? Should I maybe loos the mufflers???? I would like to order tonite or tomorrow at the latest so any comments would be appreciated. On a side note.....I changed my plugs today from the stock autolites to Splitfires....do new coil-overs make any difference?

I would say no cats, but I don't know your emission laws. You need to talk to neckbonekat about this. He lives in New York as well.

no cats is going to best the best bet performance-wise but if you get caught with no cats on your car be ready for a hefty fine.

all you have to do is get pulled over man.

a cop can look under your car.

he just can't go under your engine bay or any other locked compartments without your consent.

Ny is just like Boston, inspection is a must! I would play safe and get hi-flow cats. Even if you get the inspection sticker, if they nail you, they impound your car for improper equipment and federal emissions violations. I've been there... Lost my Iroc-Z to the state of MA in 1995. As far as the plugs, I prefer to go the cheap copper route. It sparks and conduct faster (better) than platinum. I went to autolite 103 even though didn't really need them.

On the plugs, I run regular old Champion copper plugs. They have worked great.

by the sound of your car, by racing, by blowing a red light, tint too dark... Any reason you give them to pull you over, 80 percent of the time in those states with emissions tests, the cops will look under the car and ask you to open the hood. I know what I'm telling you man...

just run off road pipes.

take your current heat shields off and spot weld them on the offroad pipes.
