Dyno is the only way that I know of, and a basic rule of thumb is to shift at 5800 rpm's for mustangs

drive the it until you get a feel for it...thats how i did it...i usually shift about 5400 anything after that for me is wasting time...drive it and try to get a feel for when it stops pulling in the gear you are in

look at your dyno print out and see where your power starts falling off. not much point staying in that gear if you're not in your power band anymore

It really depends on what all you have done to your motor. Personally, I shift at about 6500rpm's.

unless you have cams your power pretty much falls out right about 5600-5700, And you also want to shift so you start out at peak tq in the next gear. so 5900 is the latest you should shift with just minor bolt ons.

well this is another thing to..you want to be in higher rpms for second gear so it keeps the speed going..not lagging you down...so around 5800 or 5900 is perfect for the 2v

Can you find it out by data logging with your tuner?

I would think that data logging should be able to tell you or at least get you closer if you cant feel the drop that well. You can also watch your MPH gauge when you are accelerating and see were it slows down compared to the RPM's . If your RPM's are still climbing but your not gaining a whole lot of MPH.. time to shift. But like said above dynoing is the best way.
