Rear end upgrades/mods for 99-04
I was reading an article in Mustang Enthusiast about upgrading to a 9" rear-end from Currie.
I have an 02 GT that I'm slowly building up. No power adders yet. I will be adding MM Max Grip Box late this year + pulley, upgraded injectors/COPs cold air, throttle body, and BBK's new dual-stage manifold (BBK is in Temecula). I have put on Borla's best after-cat exhaust for the 02 GT, along with MagnaFlow X-Pipe and BBK headers. I started out with FRPP headers but frankly can't see why they bother - just a bigger dump pipe, otherwise the same as OEM, welding by Lighthouse for the Blind. Every time I get under the car I wince looking at the axle housings and just the whole rear end set-up. There has to be a nice painted, plated or alloy rear-end for the 99-04. Likewise, all the aluminum driveshaft’s are for manual transmissions. I would greatly appreciate a little help squaring away my drive train. Rust is not my favorite metal finish...

I don’t know that this will help any but for my own car I plan on sticking with the 8.8
I have all ready installed 4.10 motive gears and bearings and upper and lower tube type control arms with polyurethane bushings these upgrades are great I also have the aluminum drive shaft witch was an awesome upgrade for the money if you could have one made or find one for your application next I plan on going with the auburn pro 31 spline differential along with mosers 31 spline axels then weld the axel tubes with maybe arp wheel studs this should be a pretty tuff set good for up to maybe 600 hp..

Thanks. I don't care about the 9" part - it's the cosmetics. Those rusty axel housings are butt-fugly. Haven't been able to locate an aluminum drive shaft except from FRPP. After my header experience I'm worried about fit and finish. Not building a show car, but I am putting a $4K suspension in and that doesn't jibe with a rusty axle/driveshaft. Did the Cobra brake upgrade - that's from Ford Racing, but the parts aren't. I have to admit I love my FR-500 steering wheel though.

A good pressure washer might get some of the rust off.
