"CHECK FUEL CAP" dash light?

OK, I have this light lit on the dash of my '99 GT and canot figure how I got it nor how to delete it!
I was told by a Ford tech I must have added fuel with the car running. Not likely but could have added an additive with it running. I noticed it after I changed the coolant to a non-antifreeze type for summer use, could that have affected anything, seems unlikely? I have NO CEL's and the car runs fine except for this one problem. If there was a small leak in the EVAP system I would get a CEL! Could the charcoal canister be plugged? I have added octane boosters a fedw times but not around the time the light came on so any suggestions? Thanks, mark

Could just be that you tightened the fuel cap on a little cooked and wasnt a tight seal. Check the cap, make sure its on straight and tight then clear the code with a handheld or have a parts store do it for you. If it comes back on then you have a prob but my guess is that it won't

mine did the same thing and it was the rubber seal that is used to seal the fuel tank to the fuel inlet hose/pipe what ever you want to call it that you put the gas nozzle in when you fill up. just buy a new seal and replace it takes about 30 minutes and is a bitch to pop in.

yeah that most newer cars have that nowadays, its either ou dont have it tight enough or you need a new one cause the seal is bad.

Mine did it for the first three weeks that I had it and then it stopped. All that I did was pull the neg cable off to let the comp reset and it cleared it.

+1
That is the quickest way to clear the code or you can leave it and the next time the car runs through it's cycle it will clear.
