My 3rd gear synchro has been blown for the past year and yesterday, even with rev-matching to slip it into third, it's popping out of gear. At the same time, it's become a chore to even put it in gear in any gear. 2nd is clunky, 4th grinded a couple times, and the shifter barely feels like its in neutral because when moving the shifter right and left I can feel the gates. When pushing the clutch in, the shifter moves and vice versa.

I realize it's most likely beyond repair, so I've been trying to figure out what route to take in getting a new transmission. From meineke, they said they could find a re-manned unit for between 12-1800 bucks. On ebay there are the same things for 800-1200. A used one from prestige mustang in Georgia is 700. The guy Todd at prestige says they have a 90 day warranty. He says that if there's any slight problem they dot sell it as a transmission but as a core.

Bottom line to where I'm trying to take this is should I trust a 700 dollar transmission from prestige mustang off eBay or go the safer route with a re manufactured unit for the 1200-1800 dollars? Or the remanned 800-1200?

What is the best route and does anyone have any pointers or advice?

It's kinda all up do you. How much money do you have and how much piece of mind do you want? A buddy of mine just picked up a 3650 off Craigslist for 400. It's been a couple of days and so far it's running strong.

Send it to me for a rebuild. Jk. It's totally up to you. What I would do is get the used one, replace the blocker rings and throw it in. But in the long run its all about how much you want to spend

How much would it be to do blocker rings?

I'm in a bind about this. It seems like its going to be undriveable soon and I'll need to make a decision fast. I'd like to do this for 1200 tops?

If you plan on installing yourself then give the cheap unit a try. It would suck to pay a shop twice or more to replace a crappy unit.

I'm in Maryland. I'm willing to pay the freight shipping if it's in good condition.

My shop is charging me 150 to do the tranny and while it's out I'm putting a heavy duty throw out bearing in it too.

I would find a used one local on Craigslist. Save yourself the 150 and swap it out yourself. It's pretty easy.

The parts I've gotten from prestige have been all fine and as described, the rear end I got was alittle rusty but it was low mileage (or at least the pumpkin looked almost perfect inside) so I was more than happy when I spoke with them, I've been up there and it made me not want to leave the amount of stang parts was amazing

Yeah that's what I wanted to hear. Personal experience from prestige. I kept telling the guy about how it would suck to buy the transmission, have it shipped here,have it put in and hve it crap out on me. He seemed to be confident that unless the things perfect or close to it, they sell them as cores.

Anyone else have experience from prestige?

I ordered a replacement power seat track from when I was fat and broke mine. The one they initially sent was missing a mounting tab...

But they were happy to help me out by sending a new one at no cost to me! I later needed a set of fuel lines to hook up to my fuel rails and an e-brake cable. Both parts + Combined shipping was like $120!

I just replaced my old trans, 3rd gear was all messed up, with a remanufactured one. I got it from smartpartsauto.com
Once you send your core back to them it only costs about 960 for the trans. And then however much your clutch and everything else costs will be the total. I think i spent about 12-1300 all together. Comes with a year warranty. Its been about a month and I have had no problems at all.
