Crankshaft opinions wanted

I'm building a new shortblock right now and I have a good 6 bolt crank on hand. Do you guys think I should go ahead and get the 8 bolt Cobra crank or just use the cast crank? I'm putting together a 10.3:1 motor and I plan on spraying atleast a 150 HP shot of n2o. I am trying to weigh this decision carefully, because I already have a Spec aluminum flywheel for a 6 bolt, but I don't want to take chances with a new motor on a weak crank either. How much power is the 6 bolt crank good for any way? I have heard around 600, but I never seen any proof of this.

ive heard our 6 bolt is good for anywhere around 550-600 rwhp... yet i really haven't heard of a gt breaking a crank... probably because everyone running gobs of hp already swapped out for a forged crank. imho its better to be on the safe side.

I highly doubt you'll break a crank man.

If you ever plan on going higher than 650 rwhp I would change it. I say 650 b/c I have heard 600 but here never heard of a crank breaking in one of these cars.

Can you buy a forged 6 bolt crank, or are they all 8 bolt once their forged?

i say go ahead and go for the forged cobra crank. its a little more expensive, but its extra insurance against something breaking. the cast crank in these cars are pretty stout and able to handle over 600 hp but do you want to have to buy a complete new long block becasue yours let go early. i wouldnt. i say do ti right the first time and spend the extra $$$$ on the forged stuff, recoup your costs by selling the 6 olt and flywheel

I'm ordering some manley h-beams and I'm undecided on piston brand at the moment, but they will def. be forged. I'm still looking at options on flat tops with some serious valve reliefs.

All forged cranks are 8 bolt, but not all 8 bolts are forged- if you follow that.

Well, on a side note, I let my oldest daughter (3) pick the color for the new block. Was it a mistake? You be the judge........

it is an attention graaber! the crank will hold quiet a bit of power, a 6 bolt flywheel would be the least of my worries. spec makes great products, talk to them about the application. if nitrous is all the only power adder you will be running, i would up the compression a little more. when building a nitrous motor, you dont have to worry about how much compression you run. just make sure the bottom end is strong. if it were boost, the compression ratio would have to drop.

I don't want to go too high. I built an 11:1 motor a few years ago and had problems with as quality. I'm going to sty under 10.5:1 with this one.

Love the green block man. I've always liked to do things different than the norm.

Yeah, I think it will be cool to pop the hood and see what kind of comments I get. I'm going to go ahead and paint the front cover and the heads the same color.
