if you have never done it yes it is hard as hell.
I do all my own work but I wouldn't touch the gears on my car.
pay for the install.

I disagree... if you buy the proper tools and are mechanically enclined its not as bad as some people make it sound.

thats not true. A mechanic is supposed to test drive the car after he does any type of mechanical work to it. Normally a shop puts about a mile on each vehicle after doing something like that. A mechanic however, does not need to beat on ur car to test this.

When I got my clutch installed I said it was slipping and it wasnt but I thought it was my guy drove it for 60 miles and was burning rubber and putting it through its paces because he wanted to make sure my clutch wasnt slipping! This is one of the few that I will trust to touch my car!

I'll bet you'll have to take this statement back. My mechanica has been working on cars at his father's garage since he was a teen. He has a ten second Fox body that only him and his father work on and he told me to never get Motive gears. He had them in his Stang and then his old Thunderbird and no matter how many times he took them out and put them back in he could not stop the whine. He said it wasn't terribly loud, but he didn't like it so he has used FRPP gears on his Stand, his father's truck and his girls Stang all with no whineing.

Idk about that i have 3.90s in my car and since frod racing doesnt make a 3.90 rear i'm going to say that myn are motivegears and if they are they sure dont whine and the car has like 80k on it.

and i dont know bout the gears b/c the i bout the car from dealer with them in it.

They could be Yukons.

When I ordered my gear/rear end kit from LMR, they tried to send me Yukons. Their ad said they used frpp gears, but when I placed the order the guy told me they stopped putting frpp gears in the kits and were now using Yukons. I had to have them swap them out for the frpp gears.

I have 0 whine or noise comming from my ass end now (I think my old bearings were tired at 80k) and am happy I had them switch the gears in the kit to frpp.

um he didnt shim them right. the backlash is not correct. I would STOP driving the car and have it checked. you might have premature wear on the gears already.

I have always been told if they whine like a sob then the backlash is wrong. whatever you do have it inspected by a compitent mechanic or a guy on the board that knows what he is doing.

im sorry to hear that you had a bad expirance with the gears but motive is in deed a good brand and if they had been installed corectly they would not wine i have them in my stang and i hear verry little gear wine second gears do need to be broken in motives require a 500 mile brake in time i would file complaints to better buisness and file a law sute

that blows man.....if u get the job done again and get Ford Racing gears make sure which set you are buying. there are two sets offered...regular ford racing and the original ford (racing) gears. the guy who installed mine said that the cheaper ford racing gears are actually motive gears in a ford racing box. hes delt with motive before and has never been satisfied with the results. he has went and called motive and asked why do they make noise...there response was they are cut such and such way for strength or ome bs. i ran motives in an old mopar and they made noise. the "original" set is a lil more expensive but are much easier to setup. if u find a set of ford racing gears for 170 dollar range they are likely to be the motive set. the good ones will run u around 230+. thats what i have in mine and they are quiet as the factory ones were. 50resto sells both sets to give u an idea of the prices.

id definately would take legal action if he didnt wanna back up his work.
