So angry just got my 4.10's installed!

So i brought my 00 GT about a week and a half ago and just now got it back after every day being told tomorrow that tomorow never came till now. after dropping 600$ on a rental for 10 days then having to give him 460$ to do the job. only for him to pull the car off the lift then hammer on it before the car even warms up. then ripping the shit out of it all over the place. He then said its ok don't need to brake them in there for racing so i get the car back. he said it was ok i take it i then hear a loud wining noise like really loud more like the rear end is going to blow out.

I take it back to him and now he's blaming me said the gears at strictly for racing then to be scrapped and there suppose to be making that noise. now mistake me if im wrong but i've had friends that had 4.10's on there stang and have not herd it sounding or performing like that on top of being over 1000$ in the hole the car does not even perform any better then it did before more like worse. any advice you guys could give me would be great.

Gears are not strictly for racing... If installed properly they should not be making this noise... Get you some FRPP quality gears and i'd make him do the job over again.

with the exception of motives... that's just there nature.

tell him redo it correctly or you'll file a suit and put his ass out of business.

or just call the BBB on his ass. that should work too :wink

motives are going whine...but not enough to drown out your music.... like people said, call the BBB on his ass. but the whole thing with breaking in gears is a well debated question, lots of people dont break them in and they have no problems, but lots of people also feel safer breaking them in.

I had my motive 3.73 installed last Friday , They sound no different than my stock ones did. There is a slight sound I can barely here with the radio off and no a/c on almost like the calipers barley touching the rotors. The guy that did mine said FRPP usally drop right in with no shimming ,But he had to shim my Motive gears. I decided to break my in with easy driven for 200 miles just to be safe .Hope this helps.

No... I did it myself. After doing it... there is just so many little things they can take short cuts on. I dont trust other people working on my car in general, would rather just read up on the internet about it and figure it out... that way I know what exactly was done and if it was done right.

i call BS on the motive as well, i have the motive performance series and i had a very trusted and competet mechanic install them, new bearings, seals the works, no whine. Its all in the install, now granted my Throwout bearing is screaming but i can't here the gears at all (watch me fix the TOB and have to retract this post ) but yeah that sound like the guy just tossed them in, raped you and made you like it. i would not let him re-install the gears but i would make him pay for your rental and the re-install.

Man I really feel for ya, gear whine sucks!

That said, call Motive and ask if their gears should whine. Tell them what happened and see what they say. If they lay the blame on the installer cancel the check and go to small claims court.

Helps to record the phone call to Motive... You do have good phone recording gear, right? If not it'll run you about $40 or so at Radio Shack - cheaper than a lawyer.

What really, really sucks - I don't care what I'm getting done to my car or trucks, NOBODY has permission to beat on my vehicles! I'm afraid the cops would have been there had that happened to me.

Nevermind that, just try what I said and good luck with it. And in the future, next time you're picking up your car and some grease monkey is flogging it, refuse to pay until you're talking to the owner and said grease monkey is fired on the spot and all damages to your car are agreed to be paid no expense to you. I've done it once before, it works.

Sounds like some shady work was done to your car. I would call the BBB also. Like said above, gears should not whine if they are properly installed. The shop that did mine is a strictly a drivetrain and differential shop.

I would make sure that everyone you know is aware of the sh!tty work that was done by that shop.

That blows man sorry to hear it. Buy a gun!

I bought some 3.73 gears out of a ranger for 35 used. They make a little bit of noise when I'm off throttle in 5th. But I can't hear it any other time. Plus my back seat is out right now which makes it easier to hear.
