ECTED, electronic locking re-end review.

A few people asked me about the Auburn ECTED electronic locker. I was going to put this in discussion.... but its more tech related. For the amount of searching i've done... I havent found anyone else really in the mustang community that had one, but a lot of truck guys put them in.

This car is becoming a project car within a year and my posi clutches were gone... so I was going to rebuild the rear-end this summer. However its still going to be my DD, for 5-6 months; so I really wasnt sure what to buy. I wanted a locker, but they blow for street driving especially in a light car (trucks arent as bad). I bought the ECTED, which is a posi/locker combination. It has clutches, however there is a large electromagnet on the outside of the differential right before the differential bearing. When the magnet is turned on (draws power from the battery), it locks everything in place. It really becomes a spool when the magnet is on.

I installed the differential, along with new struts, 3.73's, control arms, 31 spline forged axles (I believe they make an ECTED for 28spline for the 8.8 though; not positive on that). Because of the gears I havent really beat on it yet... another 200 miles to go, but I did get a chance to test out the ECTED.

----------

Really this thing is so damn cool, testing it out it drives completely stock-like. When you flip the switch both rear wheels are completely locked together. Coming down a hill into my driveway making the turn, i flipped the switch going like 2mph; The entire car stopped, I wasnt going fast enough for the tire to break loose.... so the car just stopped on the turn. Pretty badass, showing how strong this thing is. You'll never have to dick around with clutches in a posi/lsd ever again. Flip it on when you're doing a burnout or racing flip it off when you're just driving around.

It's perfect for high HP cars + sticky tires, but still want it to be streetable. This is by far the best choice for a differential in my opinion, I bought it for $580; which is about 150 more than a Eaton posi, but WELL worth the advantages. Especially when Eaton specifically says their posi's arent made for drag racing.

Any other questions let me know.

Actually I did have problems, fixed now. Their kit that comes with it is for the stock axle cover that is like 1/16 thick aluminum. I have no doubt it wouldnt leak with that.

However, I have a FMS aluminum girdle thats like 1/2 inch thick so I had to rig some stuff up and end up just sealing it.

I have maximum motorsports control arms.
