Good 4.6L blocks?

Ive been thinking about putting together a stroker motor (for boost) for my 02. I came across a pretty much complete engine from an 01 Roush GT, it has a knock but he only wants $200 for it. I thinking about getting it, would this make a good starting point or should I look elsewhere??

Well I have always been under the impression that the block could hold up to 600-700 and the rods are what normal gave! If he is replacing the internals I think that that motor is good. But if all you are going to reuse is the block, then go and get a new block and stuff it with you want! The block will only cost 350 bucks and if you get that other one you will have to have it remachined anyways, but if you plan on reusing the heads or something then its worth it!

yeah the blocks itself can hold 800 rwhp it's the internals that can only withstand 450 rwhp once they're forged it can handle up to 800 rwhp just fine...

Thats what I was wondering, no stock parts are staying in it. I was thinking about buying a shortblock but if I can build this one it might save me some cash. Plus I could sell the PI top end stuff and pick up some VT heads or sometimeg.

Well if you want to go through the hassle of selling them then I would say go for the engine and make the money off of it and then buy a new block! I dont know I just would want everything new if I am building a new motor! Oh and if you help with anything on that motor just let me know and I can see what I can do to come down and help you out! All I want to do is work on these trhings and I dont have the money! In fact I might be interested in the heads and cams! I dont know what I want to do quite yet though!

ok the block itself will hold more than 900-1000 hp, but the internals on a stock motor can only handle around the 450 mark. the block is plenty strong, the internals are not. the bloikc only means the block that holds the internals, short block means the block plus all internals, and long block means complete motor,

dart does not make a block for the 4.6 motor. the stock block will handle more than youll throw at it, it just depends on if you put the right stuff in it that itll last

the only reason you need to change the block is if youre going for an all out drag car or autocross car. then you might want to get a stronger block, and for autocross get an aluminum one....besides that aslong as the block is straight ur good to go.

Well I have seen the heads go for around 400 if they are in great shape! And that includes the cams, and the intake I bet you could get around 50 bucks for!

Well I say go with the VT heads, just because they will cost you close to the same to get your heads worked!
