Help: Knock in front end on acceleration

I seem to be getting a slight knock from the front end, seems to be on the passenger side. It is almost as if something is a bit loose and when accelerating it taps on the floor pan because if you are a passenger you can feel it in the floor.

I only notice it when I accelerate from a complete stop in a straight line and even when the wheel is turned a bit, but when the car is in motion you never hear it. (only seems to be on stop and go)

As far as mods go, nothing much really, the car was lowered when I got it, I believe it is about a 1.6" drop.

Any idea what it could be, the car is a 1999 GT with 50,000 km (31,000 miles) on it. Bushings maybe, loose mount or bracket? Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

Brendon

it sounds like a rod knock.

but your stabilizer bushings or tie rod ends are prolly no good

is it a consistant clunk or just a single one once you start moving.

It is a pretty consistant clunck on acceleration. The other day I noticed it while turning a corner from a stop and it was quite loud.

You know when a ball joint or tie rod goes on a car and you turn the steering wheel back and forth you get that clunck/knocking sound....that is what this sounds like. But if I sit still and turn the steering wheel back and forth you dont hear anything, only on launch do you hear it.

I am going to try to check it out this weekend...lube a few things and see where it goes. Once I do that I will be back on to state my findings or happenings.

No video...but I can try to get one if it would help to diagnose the problem in any way.

try this: put car in gear, hold brake and goose the throttle. if in a manual use the parking brake to hold car. have hood open and have some one watch for anything abnormal. it sounds like a motor mount or a tranny mount to me since it does it on acceleration from a stop.

Check you stabilizer bar, after much hassle and the annoying knock on bumps and on acceleration i decided to grab on to my stabilizer bar and give it a tug and low and behold it has about a 1/4" play back and forth and clunk clunk clunk i hear it. and here i am lubing my ball joints vigorously thinking its helping.

Well I managed to get out and look at the car, didnt really notice anything out of the ordinary. The stabilizer bar is nice and tight, could not feel any movement on it at all, but I put a little lube on it anyways.

Also tried to torque up the motor a bit and didnt notice anything there either. I think I am going to give a friend of the family (a mechanic) a call and see if I can get it over to him to give it a once over, maybe there is somthing I overlooked....or just missed altogether.

I did notice the other day that when I came to a traffic light and stood on the brake to stop the car, once I released the brake there were two little knocks, quite similar to what I had explained before. Maybe one of the brakes in the front a sticking, I checked the guide pins and everything seems fine. Im starting to run out of ideas...haha.

I agree, could be a trans mount. sounds like the trans is knocking around in the tunnel. I broke one once and under hard acceleration, the tailshaft would come up and whack the top of the tunnel.

What happen to me.

I had a noise like that. Mine was loose exhaust flanges just before the mufflers and the support they where attached to. I tighted the two bolts on the bracket , close to the H pipe. All is good for now. Walt.
