Turbo/Supercharged DD build!

Ive finally found a route that I want to go and its forced induction. Im not looking for a huge gain. Id like to stay around 350rwhp, just enough for me to have some fun on the track and on the street. Are there any small turbos/superchargers that I can look into that are good? I want to avoid pulling out the motor and building it for now.

A used centri setup will easily get you to 350rwhp, and is the cheapest if you dont want to spray it

Take my car as an example. Mine is daily driven year round in all weather conditions. Has a Vortech V1 S trim on it. Was non-intercooled for 2 years and now has been intercooled for 4 months. Vortech is a great blower and the older version V1 S will get you to 350rwhp on 8psi and in the future if you decide to build the motor and do heads and cams it will support 600rwhp. There are a few used V1 S and V2 SQ aftercooled and non-intercooled complete kits floating around for sale on this site and on modularfords.com right now for $1900-$2900.

I am making 353 and love it! I of course wouldn't mind more power either but it's not a drag car so why? I would recommend a p1sc or vortech v3/v2. They are more of your daily application. You won't go wrong with either!

Vortech S trim or SI will get you all you want and more. Just run your normal 9-10lbs kit with a conservative tune and you'll meet your goals and the motor will last forever... FWIW my stock short block had 165k miles on it..... 65k miles supercharged at 12lbs with either a Vortech or Kenne Bell...... Put down 425+ all the time and never gave up... Car was run daily to the red line at basically EVERY given opportunity... Put good fuel in it and make sure its tuned right and it will last just fine. Just turn the damns stereo off when your hammered down so you can hear the motor and in the unlikely event it pings for whatever reason get out of it. I actually ALWAYS watch my wideband, never my boost gauge. I also have a warning light wired into my wideband when the AFR goes leaner than 12.0 at WOT the warning light will illuminate and I get out of it immediatly. Happened a few times for various reasons... Do that and you'll be fine forever.

Thanks guys! Its not gonna be a right away thing, Ill have to budget for a few months of course but it doesn't hurt to start the research process now. hopefully by the end of the year or mid January it will be in. It will be a gift to me for completing my first semester of college haha

Does the vortech bolt right on or what? is there anything else I would need for the install if i buy a brand new kit? Since it will be a DD how will gas consumption be? Also what is the difference between intercooled and non intercooled, which is better for DD?

I live in california and smog is a PITA. Is there a supercharger that is okay to run for smog? Or if i run a "conservative tune" will I be okay? Id like to go turbo but ive heard i wont pass smog with it.

50-State Emission Legal

Most Vortech complete supercharger systems are emissions legal in all 50 states or have the California Air Resources Board (C.A.R.B.) approval pending on process completion. Please refer to the individual system pages for specific EO number by application

Your gas mileage should stay about the same you may lose about 1mpg in the city bc you are putting that extra load on there to spin the blower but at highway speeds that shouldn't have a very negative effect kinda like an a/c compressor but you have the potential to burn more gas when you start playing around in it bc you now have a larger volume fuel pump and injectors which will all come in an complete kit. my average mileage is about 15-17 city 23-25 highway BUT I have 3:73 gears in the rear.

Yes with the complete vortech kit eveything bolts right in and for your power goal and with the stock pulley you can run it non-intercooled but if you start upping the boost and doing back to back runs at the track then you may want to look for an intercooler later down the road.

this is str8 from Vortech's site under FAQ on the subject of intercoolers

Why don't Vortech superchargers need an Aftercooler or an intercooler?

Vortech Engineering, LLC has conducted extensive testing of most intercoolers/aftercoolers currently on the market. Test results indicate that for street driven purposes below 8-9 PSIG, installing an aftercooler has marginal effects when using a Vortech supercharger (due to the high efficiency of the supercharger). Nearly all of the intercoolers/aftercoolers available on the market have poor effectiveness and actually can cause parasitic losses equal to or greater than the power gained by installing a intercooler/aftercooler. Vortech has developed systems which are substantially more effective at lowering discharge temperatures without causing driveability problems and pressure drops thru the cooling core and ducting

But if you could find a cx racing or treadstone intercooler kit to go along with your vortech kit it would be a nice addition but with the stock pulley and 350rwhp power goal its not something you would need.

as far as cost browse through this Blower Cost???$$$

as far as daily drivers and miles racked up by various members browse through this How many miles supercharged?
