Subs & Amps issue?

Alright, Wired in a new deck yesterday, I already had an aftermarket so that wasn't too much work.

Now, all the harnesses are obviously in place, etc. All of my speakers work, but the stock amp had just been bypassed, they did that with the last aftermarket. So I decided it was time to get an Amp & Subs. Thus I got a Rockford Progate setup from a friend, two Subs, and a Amp wired on the back. I went and bought an amp wiring kit and me and a friend ran all the wires.

Ran the wire to the battery, connected it all, connected the fuse, connected the RCA's, etc.

I noticed i needed a "REM" or a "Remote power" cable. This just signals the amp I guess or whatever. Suppose to run from the deck to the amp. My new deck had no cable labled as such. It did have a "Auto Antenna" line, which, matched the color of the amp REM line the kit supplied, and it being the only AUX cable left from my deck, I assumed it's correct, especially since it's also the same size and guage.

So I power on the deck, amp and subs do nothing. The LED on them doesnt come on either.

Any suggestions, ideas, things to check?

The only other thing is my ground off my amp isnt grounded properly, I couldnt find a good spot, and wanted to test it before I grounded it by drilling.

Is it possible the lack of a ground renders it completely unoperational?

I wired a system for a buddy of mine. Try running ur remote wire witht the power wire that supplies your deck power.

if he does that the amp will never go off.

your new deck just doesnt have a remote wire installed , just go out and buy a remote wire (from any best buy or circuit city) and have them install it for you (15 bucks at the most) then your all good to go , this is your problem , im sure all of your grounds and everything are fine , the amp will not get power without the remote wire.

y not? the deck doesn't get continual power from the battery... from my opinion as an electrician, that would be a fine place to hook it up to.

Wait wait, you've lost me. Hold on.

Okay, I have my Remote wire, now, I have my ACC wire aka the power wire from the ignition my Deck gets. So Just splice the Remote wire into that and that should cause the amp to work?

Yes?

Alright in the morning, I am hooking the Remote into the Power for the deck.

I'll keep you guys posted. If it works, I love you all. If not, I'll be back to whine

ok bro i been here exactly... with rockford stuff also. first check your ground. if you do not have a good ground connection, nothing will happen. i hooked mine up to the crossbar behind the back seats (on the top where they fold down, just pull one of the bolts out and slide the ground wire on there).

with the remote wire, if you splice it into the power cable, which is what I did, you will have to also put a switch in. there is always current coming from the battery even with the car and radio off, so your amp will always be on. trust me on this. get a switch. lemme know if you keep having problems.

thats what i was trying to say , all power all the time. Dude, its your remote wire , go and get one installed , its not your ground , no remote wire = no power

To test your ground, make a small U shaped wire out of speaker wire, and connect it from where the power wire goes into the amp (with power connected) and plug it into the spot for the remote wire. If it works, then take the wire out and get you a remote wire installed. If it doesnt work, then find you a new ground. Simple as that.

you should first inspect all the wires in the install kit make sure nothing has broken the conection instect the fuse thats on the amp if equiped with one the problem is more then likly something simple but i would not run the rem wire from the +12v the amp will stay on all the time ...if anything you should run it from the ignition wire so it shuts on and off with the ignition switch if you contenue to have problems get a cheep tester and hunt down the problem

02gt317 is right, as long as he doesn't use the constant power wire. That wire will cause the amp to never go off, u want to wire it to the accessory.

edit.....all decks get continual power from the battery, how else do u think ur deck would remember ur presets, or what song ur listening too, how far in a song, the TIME

Okay anyway, I took care of the issue with the Remote wire.

Now it appears though .my deck, which I payed god knows how much for because of all the random features it has, is totally useless. In fact, it has no RCA outputs, only inputs and inputs for XM Direct.

As retarded as that is, it's just so the case.

that is very retarded. A unit with no RCA outputs, that's so in the 80's...
