13" Rotors

Musclemotors.com is freakin RIPPING people off for these Cobra Big Brake upgrade kits....so Im looking for a back door because $250 for the rear is one thing...$470 for the front is ridiculous. As far as 13" slotted rotors go, I keep seeing these for sale that say 94-2004 Cobra only, and I think thats bullshit cause if you've got a 94-04 Mustang GT or V6, the rotors should fit just as well. What I think is these people sell these rotors assuming that the customer has NO idea he can buy the calipers and brake lines to go with it...Am I missing something here like spacers? wheel clearance or other hardware? My point is will ANY set of 13" slotted or cross-drilled brake rotors work on my 2001 GT?

Can you buy these brackets somewhere, and then get the parts froma junkyard off a cobra? What about the Mach1 brakes are then any better then the GTs and what would be needed to fit them?

if your gonna get the calipers from the junk yard then why not get the brackets and shims as a package deal. then just get some new pads and rotors. its silly to waste all that time and money when you can get all you need from one place.

look just spend the money. go to a junkyard that has the cobra brakes and pull them. buy some ss brake hoses, rotors, and pads and be done with it.

This seems to contradict itself alil but I was wonderin if ford used the same spindles on the all the models and just modified the caliper for the different models to house bigger brakes. In which case you would could take cobra or mach calipers and bolt them up to a GT wit new lines rotors and pads.

you will need the brackets because the brake rotor is 2 inches bigger on the cobra

coming from someone who HAS done the upgrade..

what you NEED to make it work:

Cobra calipers.
Cobra caliper brackets.
Cobra rotors.

that's it

SS lines are always fun and I did do them but you don't need to.

Mach1 brakes are the same thing as Cobra brakes.. you still would need everything on the list.
the only difference between the 2 is one caliper would say Cobra and the other has a running pony and is red.

any other questions?

brakes arent cheap and if youre one of those people who expect to get a full brake set including 4 calipers and rotors then you might as well go buy a taurus or a cavalier or something.

The brakes on my Mach are not red nor do they have a running pony on them. I believe they are the same setup as the Cobra brakes just don't say C O B R A on them.

Incorect. The red paint may have been added by a Mach owner but the car only had 2 factory options: automagic tranny and IUP.

go to buyfordracing.com. i bought the bullit 13" brake kit (exactly the same as the cobra kit) for $369. it showed up quick and me and a friend put em on about 40 mins. they work amazing and look great too. i shopped around and could only find the same kit for $450 or so til i saw it for $369 and jumped on it. 13in rotors, cobra calipers, and stainless steel brake lines...

Since a few of you guys did this, I just got the kit and Im gonna install it this saturday. They're two 13" Cross-drilled rotors with the big dual piston front brake calipers and the SS brake lines. Can I manage to swap those brake lines out without losing too much fluid? Should I just empty the fluid and refill when Im done? Also, somebody told me to lube the rotor to avoid squeeking with the brake pads...but I didnt do that when I replaced my rear brakes two weeks ago and I have'nt heard a squeek yet. And do I need those stock dust sheilds with the kit or can I get rid of them?

stay away from the cheap shit. the previous owner of my car put les schwab rotors, brake pads, and struts on the car about 1000 miles before i bought it. let me tell you, that stuff is GARBAGE. the rotors were warped within 3000 miles, the brake pads leave TONS of dust on my wheels, and the struts have no slot to put a screwdriver in so its a pain to get them off. just spend the extra few bucks and get good stuff, you will be better off.
