How can I add a Sub to the Mach 460?
Ok, well its going to be too much money than its worth to just buy a new headunit b/c of the amp and speaker bypass bull, but i was wondering if there is some kind of wireing harness or sumthing that allows you to add an external sub amp to the mach 460 stereo. I know you can get the mtx thunderform 10'' 4500 powered enclousure but thats around $500!! i want something like a 12'' MB Quart for sound quality and light. So is there a way to do this where i dont have to spend $200 on somebody installing some bullcrap bypass to the stock amps?

it depends on how u want ur stereo set up.
U can leave the stock amps and speakers, get a hi/low converter, splice it into the line(when i say splice i don't mean cut and tape, use kirmpers) and that should allow u to run a signal to a aftermarket amp and subs using the stock head unit and stock speakers. I would suggest running a seperate gain control, because u won't be able to control the bass sep from all the speakers. if ur sub is on level 10 bass then so are the normal speakers. With a sep gain control u can program the deck so the stock speakers don't blow, and then use the control to adjust bass accordingly. I've seen this done with stock navigation units as well as regular stock decks. |

done it
I tried to do it...or my stereo shop did. It is actually not practical. The 460 unit is just not compatible. They tried 4 different ways. The main problem seems to be with how the amps driving the 460 system react with adding another amp for the sub. They even did try the gain control but I ended having to adjust the gain for every song. In the end the quality sucked. I just had them rip out the whole system and put in what I wanted

my friends got a 1800 watt kenwood amp powering 2 jl audio w2's. It'll work, u just need to have patients. And the reason the gain control is there is because ur going to need to adjust every song manually. I have one rigged with my aftermarket setup. After u pass a certain amount of power bass for one song sounds like crap for another. Its not really that hard, just a twist of a dial...

so pretty much what you guys r saying is its more trouble than its worth? Damn i hate the Mach system!!! Don't get me wrong, it does sound good, but it has no bass response at all!!! and when it does it distorts and almost blows! So i've come to my conclusion... since the bass blows on the mach 460, the mach 460 blows. I may just go on ebay and buy a the mach 1000 subs and sub amps to add becuase i've heard of people doing that and the 1000 sounds damn good, not too loud but just right.

I used to work in car audio, and honestly for the money you would pay on a mach 1000, you might as well pay a little extra and get something good. when all is said and done, the mach audio system is still pressed paper, which is gay and easy to blow. if you want a good sound for not alot of money, go for some polk audio db series speakers with an alpine four channel amplifier, then for the bass, choose what type of sub you would like, and match it up with the right amp. polk dbs are like 150 a piece maximum, check crutchfield, you will need 5x7s, (ford lists them as 6x8s wtf??) and the amp will be around 200. a deck install is just a matter of buying a deck, wiring harness and dash kit. labor at my store was 45 for the deck and 30 for the amp bypass.

Just upgrade the sound system....modding the 460 is a PITA and just shouldn't be done. It will never sound as good. If you're concerned about prices check this site out. I have ordered from them before and they're a good company. www.onlinecarstereo.com check them out

The Shaker 1000 (Mach 1000 equivelent) in my car sounds awesome. I don't know how it compares to the Mach 1000 but if its anything like it, it will be less hassle and still sound good.

i installed a 12 inch sub using my mach 460 system and it sounds GREAT! anyone who hasn't actually successfully installed this shouldnt talk bad about it because you dont know how it sounds. it isnt that hard to do, the steps in the link from mustang world will get you on the right track. having a remote bass control makes it much much better than not having one, but it will still sound good if you get your adjustments right. the amp and sub combination in my car hits hard when its turned up and when i want to turn the bass way down or even off all i just turn the remote bass knob down. i dont even have to mess with my stereo controls.

The shaker 1000 is indeed an awesome system...for a factory system. If I took you for a spin through my system, though, you wouldn't even be able to spell shaker 1000.
