Engine Swaps
Alright, so I've decided that I'm going to swap out the stock engine in my 1999 Mustang GT. I've been tossing around the ideas of a Cobra engine or a 2005+ Mustang GT in the event that I can find one. My father and I would probably do everything by ourselves. He's a mechanic and has access to all the necessary equipment. I was wondering a few things and looking for a few suggestions though:
Modifications-I know the transmission will need to be changed or beefed up and I'm sure there'll be some computer issues. How much more would need to be modified or changed? Any tips or anything at all would be appreciated and the reason I landed on an engine swap is because this is a daily driven car. I'd like performance and things over sheer numbers. Thanks |

fuel systems are slightly different and then the wiring because the 05 is a 3-valver and i would find a doner smashed car and see what they will let you buy but to me its not worth the trouble its usually easier and cheaper to buy what you want for a car. if you just want power but want to keep your car look into forced induction and do it right.

i can tell you anything you want to know about the 03/04 swap, I just did it in my 99-04 gt. for starters: same motor mounts so it'll be a breeze to swap, and the factory GT harness / ECC will work with only minor modification.
The swap with a long list of performancs mods cost me under 7200 and i'm nearly 520 RWhp with a stock unported heaton s/c. the only thing i would've done differently is scrapped the stock roots blower, put an 01' cobra intake, timing cover, etc and put a centrifugal blower on it. The car with its current roots style blower makes power instantly and it's almost a hassle to drive. i'm still using the T3650 and 1st gear is completely uselss with 3.73s and m/t streets. I have to bog it every time there's just no way!!! a high HP centri car is a LOT more streetable than a high HP roots car imo!!! |
