01 Cobra mods

Hi guys, newby here. Love this board, very informative. I tried searching for info, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Here's the story:

I have an '01 Cobra 'vert that is both a daily driver and my track car. The only mods I've done so far are KN air filter, Steeda roll bar, Steeda Triax shifter, and Nitto racing radials for the track.

I want more...more hp, faster ETs...I want it to sound scarey, too. But I'm not reading much about mods, seems the GTs have a lot more possibilities

Are the '01 Cobras really that limited in what kind of hp I can get without a super charger? The guy at the local speed shop said this motor can't handle much more than 400...

So I'm looking for advice. Spend the $$$ and see what I can get, or sell it and go for a Terminator?

Thanks for reading

Interesting results on the dyno...

I would say start with some gears and then move up to full exhaust, is that K&N a drop in filter or CAI?

Pics...jeez, youse guys... :wink
says I'm not allowed to post because I'm too new...sorry

Interesting read, thanks for the article!

K&N is a drop in, not the CAI.

I'm already lined up for 4:10 gears, Magnaflow exhaust, headers and CAI. But those mods won't get much hp.

I guess the question I'm asking is: will an '01 Cobra get the same kind of results with the usual mods as a GT?

no.

an 01 Cobra will respond to mods a lot better because you have a 4v motor

the GT's only have a 2v.

HMUSN, because of the DOHC, does that mean if I want to change the cam to Stage 1, I'll have to buy two?

Forgive me my ignorance about these motors...I'm just trying to get into the 12's at the track and don't want to waste time and money if I won't get the results I want.

And I know this isn't really a great 1/4 mile car anyway, I just want to have fun

you would have to buy 4 cams..

there are 2 cams in each head.

to get 12's in an 01 Cobra isn't hard at all.

get some suspension mods, good tires, and a 100 and you will be there.

I can't even picture 4 cams...*dumb blonde moment*

and what's a 100?

My best time was 13.82, and that was with perfect conditions. Average times are closer to 14.00, and that sucks

You'll definitely feel it if you get the 4:10 gears. Great first mod in my opinion, I definitely agree with HMUSN.

If you're getting a full exhaust (headers back) and a CAI, a chip/tune is definitely in order, and that will free up some extra hp. I think you'll be quite happy with the difference you'll have gotten at that point.

4v

I have an 01. Got the JLT cai, bbk lt's and mids w/cats, also some mnagnaflows. Gonna do some fr500 heads and all four cams, comes all together neat in a pack. Also this cool magnesium intake. Thinking about some pistons and rods too, forged 10 to 1 should do. Thinking it might do a little over 400 at the wheels. We'll see.

You should be able to get an 01 Cobra into the 12s with just gears, exhaust and some stickies. They respond very well to bolt-ons. Go with 4.30s, you won't be disappointed.

Oh and welcome to MM.

Ya, ya...I'm hearing a lot about 4:30s instead of the 4:10s . Still thinking about it. I have the guys ready for Sat...gonna leave it for a week and hopefully come home with headers and new exhaust w/catbacks.

What I really appreciate is getting posts like this, when y'uns don't treat me like a dumb blonde (which I can sometimes be ). I'm serious, and have the $$$. A buck in the quarter doesn't thrill me, didn't the first race day. I got the need...

Test n' tune will be in about 3 weeks, and I want to see what the she can do.

(please, NHRA, make me wear my helmet...)

Definately chip/tune. Wouldn't make sense not to. Friggin' computers run everything.

What ever happened to tune-ups using a matchbook, and points/plugs/condenser?

i hear from a lot of people that they are prefering the 4.30's in the 4v cars since they rev out more. a headers back exhaust system will help out a lot. i would add a t/b and a tune with all of it too. stickies alone will drop the times alot.
