Yet another gear question!!

Well i already have 3.73 in my car (bought it that way) but after reading alot of posts about the 4.10 difference i am thinking of changing them. I have an auto trans and my question is: Are the 3.73 better for an auto or the 4.10???... I'm not worried about gas mileage, the car is not driven everyday, but just looking for a little more get up!! Thanks!!

4:10

you won't see as much as a difference because you already have 3:73's but it will def. still be noticed

just make sure you get quality gears... if they're lower than $120 then they're shit. You get what you pay for... and fyi i know you dont care but b/t 3.73 and 4.10, there is no difference in MPG

Depends on how old the bearings are that are already in there and how careful you are when pressing them off and back on. Bearings are cheap relative to the install price especially when purchased as a kit. I would go ahead and get them and have them installed.

Hey one more question, what gear oil(grade-weight) should i use with the existing 3.73??.... Definitely a synthetic...royal purple, mobil one??... and how many bottles??.. Thanks!!

gears

Hey guys need some info, i had some 4.10 gears installed and made a bad choise by choosing motive gears, not only that but the shop that installed them really sucked. Well i got my money for the install back but now im stuck with a bad install, when i speed up and pick up speed i hear some heavy winning , when im slowing down it does not wine at all is there something that i can check to help this issue temporarily.

Have You had Your car tuned?
If You've already got 373's I'd go for a tune espesially with an auto a tune can shave 1/4 sec or more off a 1/4 mile time
Which is than what You'll get from a gear chage

ford racing parts gears are the best! I say stick with the 3.73s for now and spend your money else where! You arnt going to be impressed with the 3.73 to 4.10 swap!

yeah well i wasn't to sure about how much difference there would be, my thing is that right now the rear end is whining a lil and i just figured is somethings not right in there and the 3.73's are worn or damaged then i would put in 4.10's!!

And no i do not have any sort of tune on the car, handheld or dyno..

If you're bored as hell and got a couple bucks to spend get the 410s from Ford Racing. Late Model Restoration has them for sure. If they are like $220 + it's the FRPP ones. Since you recieved your install money back you might want to spend a bit more and go with the gear that will make you happy in the end.

Right now I have the 410 I got at a really good price waiting to install. I'm starting to think I should have went with a 430. However, I think of it this way, a 430 wouldnt be of any use to me with future plans, so I'm just planning for the future. You can rationalize like I am too and say "I'm just going to get a supercharger later so hell, 3.73 is fine!" :lala

I also can use a speedo gear, you'll have to buy a much more expensive speed calibrator. I'd look into spending those bucks on a handheld tuner that can calibrate for you. Kill two birds with one stone. Don't pay for an install on a gear that won't make you happy though. You'll kick yourself later.
