Well here are my 1/4 mile times......YIKES!!!!!

1st run:

R/T - .311
60 - 2.110
330 - 6.289
1/8 - 9.619
MPH - 72.56
1000 - 12.517
1/4 - 14.947
MPH - 92.80

Well, I dropped the clutch at about 2000RPM's like an idiot and spun a good bit. I also had my friggin windows down!!! I lost by 2 cars to a Ford Lightning

2nd Run:

R/T - .174
60 - 2.201
330 - 6.436
1/8 - 9.931
MPH - 71.36
1000 - 12.865
1/4 - 15.320
MPH - 91.68

I dropped the clutch AGAIN at about 2500 this time and really spun a long time!!! I was just so pumped I guess. I lost to a TA with cams and nitrous by about 5 cars!!!! It was ugly.

3RD Run:

R/T - .174
60 - 2.285
330 - 6.733
1/8 - 10.471
MPH - 67.52
1000 - 13.517
1/4 - 16.032
MPH - 89.92

This time I feathered the clutch and it felt really good. That was until I hit 2nd and my dash lit up with the spinning tire!!! Yep, I forgot to turn the traction comtrol off!!!!!!! WOW.

All in all I am very dissapointed. I thought I was a much better driver than that. Oh well, practice makes perfect.

Man I could have beaten you the 3rd run lol

Seat time is everything! I bet you had a great time and want to go back! Dont be dissapointed, but just think you will now know not to dump the clutch and spin! BTW those 60' times are really decent!

I thought the same thing. It's just the last run felt really good until the Trac Control kicked in. I'm really surprised at how much it affected my overall time. But you are right, I had a great time and can't wait to go back.

To be honest I don't really know. I didn't check my tire pressure and I didn't let any air out before I ran. I will check tomorrow and let you know.

The thing that puzzles me is that my 60ft is not too bad but my overall time is bad. What gives?

What did you shift at? What were the track conditions?

I shifted at about 5500 and it was friggin hot as hell. I was in Jackson South Carolina.

I stayed in 3rd during the 1st and 3rd run but shifted it into 4th at the end of my 2nd run. I don't know, my car was really running good but my times don't show it. I didn't miss any gears either.

yeah man those times are really high considering your 60ft times and your 3.73's. i would expect low 14's with a 2.1 60ft. i've never raced my car, thats just what i've read.

I don't know Bob. I was thinking that if I was around a 2.0-2.1 60ft I should run a low 14. I'm a bit confused. If anybody has any ideas please chime in.

Congrats!! The first time is always nerve-wracking, no matter how much advice you get :wink If you didn't make a fool of yourself, ya done good!! And racing against cars that are way out of your league doesn't help the self esteem any.

Here's what I always do:

Drop the air pressure in the rear tires to 18, cuz as they get hotter, they PSI increases. Sometimes I drop the air a second or third time.

Take the right headlight out. That way you aren't sucking hot air from under the hood.

Take the spare tire and any other stuff outta the trunk. Lighten the load.

Turn off AC

Turn off Trac Control

If I'm running street tires, no burn outs...heating them just makes them slick, not sticky.

Launch at 2000-2500 rpms, and shift at 6000.

Power shift through all the gears (if I can) and I usually never get out of third. I have stock 3:27s.

So ya gonna go again?? Please say yes! You should be foaming at the mouth to get back to the track and do it again.

Edited to add: dont take it to 6000 in first, or you'll just wheel-hop all over the place and maybe break the axle.

How is redlining to 6k going to cause wheel hop or break an axle? lol... maybe you mean launching at 6k... but redlining to 6k I have never seen any of that happen before...

Yes, I meant launching, not shifting from 1st to 2nd. My bad.

Just speaking from my own experience :wink

You have alot more to worry about than he does with wheel hop. A little wheel hope isn't going to hurt a stick rear end. It will cause real problems for your IRS especially if you are on sticky tires.

There would be no reason to launch at more than 2500 rpms unless you had good sticky tires.

Oh I am ready to go this Saturday but I have to work.

I really feel like my times could have been much much better considering my 60 ft times. I guess shifting too early kept my times and my trap speed down? I don't know.

with a totally stock 03 5sp i ran 14.5 with a 2.3 60ft coming off the line at about 2k loading the clutch, plus being as hot as it was that doesn't help. I would venture to say its your down track driving.

Yeah it's got to be. Like I said I was shifting at around 5500. But my shifts were fast and clean. I didn't miss any gears all night.
