Detonation isn't smoke. You ever buy cheap gas and run your car hard on a hot day? If so you would probably hear the engine "pinging", or rattling. This is from the fuel and air igniting too soon before top dead center. That causes the piston rings to rattle and the piston itself to slap around inside the cylinder...

Like has been mentioned, sounds like head gaskets. The accident probably has nothing to do with this. I would bet it has more to do with the giggle juice you have fed her. Let us know how it goes. I just helped a buddy degree in his Fr500 cams. It was time consuming due to the engine being in the car. Would have pobably saved us time if we pulled the engine. This is a good sized job but is doable in the garage with the help of a knowledgable friend and the right tools. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Nope. I'm hoping it's much less than a head gasket... We'll see this afternoon.

I just got off the phone with Lamotta, they don't think it's a head gasket. From what the guy on the phone said they've only had 1 4.6 come in with a blown head gasket. This includes their shop race car that runs 22psi on stock head gaskets... This is good news for now, but I still gotta figure out what's causing the problems...

I hope it has nothing to do with the juice... that makes me feel nervous.

Just got done with today's tinkering (it's about to rain) and I'm still not sure what's going on. The spark plugs were fine, I think it was in my head but the first 2 i checked had the slightest most unnoticeable amount of a shade of green. Like I said I think it's in my head. Put them all back in and buttoned everything up. I decided to crank it to see what would happen. Started up fine, and idle's like a champ. I checked the coolant levels and it was low, like 2 gallons low! Filled it back up and restarted the engine. I let it warm up to full operating temp and until the fan came on. Never went past 180*... Same as yesterday. I would give it some gas and watch the back of the car and I didn't see any smoking. Decided the problem was fixed and started puting the shaker back on. Went to the trunk to put the tools up and that's when I noticed there was a puddle of water directly below each tail pipe and water was dripping pretty steadily from the inside of the exhaust. Went and checked the temp gauge, still normal...edit: I shut the engine off at this point and haven't restarted since.
So that's where I'm at for now. I don't know exactly what this means, but it would seem to me more and more like a blown head gasket. But after talking with the shop some more, they still don't think that's it. According to them if the car was overheating the coolant woudl be getting blown out of the radiator cap. This wasn't happening. I'm not sure where to go from here, but I think I'm just gonna let her sit until I figure out exactly what it is, and can afford to fix it. If this helps anyone with diagnosing my problems please speak up! I need the help!

Hey just wondering if you ever got your head gaskets fixed. i had the same problem last night at the track. i did my first ever run with my blower which is only making 4 pounds of boost and ran a 13.9 with 103mph than my second run was a 14.1 with an 83 mph , it felt as though i missed a gear going into fourth towards the end, my car just shook and turned off as i coasted across. i got my car towed home and its smoking white exhaust. My wideband is reading super rich, off the charts rich. and it idles really bad, 100rpm than 500 rpm than 100 rpm than off in like a second. So im gonna replace my head gaskets sometime this winter while my car just sits in the garage till i know what im going to do with it.
