Have you ever done a cam install on another motor? If not I would get someone that has done them before to give you a hand.

It's a joke man. Easiest cam swap I've ever done. Just take your time pulling everything apart.

If you check the 96-98 forum (I know....who ever would think about looking in a NPI forum...just messing with you!) but there is a sticky that Casper did for a cam swap and it's pretty much the same on both engines. But it is SUPER easy. Just take your time.

So I was told by a certain install company, that deals moslty with mustangs, that they wanted to charge me like $1500 to install cams because they have to pull the engine. From the sounds of your guys response to the original ?, it seems to be not as difficult as I was told... bastards...

Yeah that's a total pile os BS. That's how much a normal shop would charge to do a cylinder head swap...like for us NPI guys wanting to go PI...Do it yourself, you get the experience and it really isn't difficult.

In a nutshell...take off the valve covers, there is a special tool to keep the timing chains tight so you don't have to take off the timing cover, undo the cam gear, undo the cam gurdles, and install the new cams, and do everything you did backwards. Not a big deal.

The special tools are an OTC tool. I think it stnds for "on the cam". Anyways, it's a tool that hooks up to a socket wrench and makes putting on/taking off the rocker arms alot easier. The second tool is a chain tensioner which keeps the timing chain tight while you remove the cam gears and put the new cams in. I'm telling you guys, read the sticky the the 96-98 section and it should get rid of whatever fear you have about this being some crazy ass mod. Here are the links for those tools. But as a side note...these tools ARE NOT MANDATORY, they just make life ALOT easier...especially that OTC tool.
