Does anyone have the VT cams? If so what stage and do you like them? Also did you put them in or have it done?

I've got stage 1's, installed them in my garage.
yes I like them, don't go well with a blower though. sound good, noticable but still good idle. you can tell the car has cams, but their not radical. I did not replace the valve springs. Untuned the car only went 1/10 quicker with 1.5 more mph. I never had it tuned until after the blower so I can't vouch for what they could have done. |

Would you suggest going with stage 2? Was it pretty easy putting them in?

Yea it wasn't difficult, but stage 2's are going to require valve springs... which is difficult. I'd honestly say that unless your wanting to rev to 7k rpm or have ported heads then to stick with the stage 1's. They won't sound as cool, but will give you better power below 5500rpm

I was wanting to go with a set of Fox Lake Stage 1 Ported Heads to compliment the cams. That gives me oversized valves, bee-hive springs, guide liners, and seals. I was was thinking of just going with stage 1 so I won't be loping too bad.

you'd definately want the stage 2's then, the extra lift of the cams compliment the portwork

Sounds good to me.
On a different note I tried to post about the meet on MF and they deleted it and then PMed me about it. ROTM and Amanda they are not happy about me doing it. But I might have amanda letting everyone know about the changes so I think it is ok. |

About 6 hours, could do it now in probably 4.
The gains aren't hugh peak to peak - usually around 25 rwhp... but up at redline I've seen as high as 55 more rwhp over stock cams. It adds up over the curve. These were on dyno-tuned cars of course. Theirs alot of dyno graphs on modulardepot for VT cams. |

i have or actaully had a vid of a 03 Cobra with cams and sounded pretty sweet. i have no idea what cams they were or anything like that but it sounded nice.
also i was looking into stage 2's to do over the winter as well as a stall converter. i need the 11's so i think this will get me there with ease, well that and some suspension work

I saw an install article on installing cams in a 4v, looked like a pain in the ass and the cams cost over a grand.

i wonder what the power gain will be though. i know my friends LS1 with the stock heads got 30 to the wheels with his cam.
i mean i know its a completely different engine but the whole thing with Cobras is that they are easy to get power out of. i can only imagine what 4 cams will produce for power.

I'm not that familiar with the modular cams, but if you are wanting to make more power at higher RPM (beehive springs, larger valves) plus the ported heads and a good intake to flow to them, then you want a cam that will make power at higher RPM. Your valve springs are the most controlling factor over your RPMs, but you won't take advantage of them if you cant make the power. Stage II all the way.

A friend of mine got his cams changed in his 03 cobra. He got a custom grind comp cams and picked up about 50 hp. The power just never stops when you step on it.

cams put out a good bit of torque. i haven't even been tuned yet and im driving a completely different car!!! i thought the longtubes made a difference.. that was a joke compared to these COMP 262s! ! incredible difference and i can only imagine what the dyno tune is going to unlock, im pretty much full bolt on now short of new heads and intake manifold and not had a tune yet.. can't wait!

Finally finished the 262's over the weekend. Car is still on stands until I put on the Roush S3 Body Kit this week. The cams sound great at a idle, you can definitley tell there is a difference. If I can get the nitrous hooked up this week I will take it in for the tune on Saturday.
If you are changing out cams in a 99 or 00, get ready for a decent job. The stock cams are press on and the upgrades are bolt on! |
