Excessive Heat
I did a search on here and found part of my answer but I need some advice from you guys on the rest. I have an 03 Cobra and the Shifter under the leather is extremely hot. Also under the floor mat on the drivers side the rubber part on the flloor is hot to touch. Seems the longer I drive the worse it gets, it gets to the point where my feet sweat.
I read that around the cup holder area and shifter might get warm but didn't think this much heat is normal, also the floor board thing is unbearable. I can't drive in the summer like this. Any suggestions? |

Get the car in the air, and check to see if the heat shields under the car are intact and in good shape. On an 03 car, they should be in good shape, but you never know. The exhaust system should have shielding above the pipes/catalytics etc, where ever they get close to the floorpan of the car.

yeah that has to be the heat shield. do you have aftermarket exhust? Cobras sit a little lower than GT's i believe so everthing is more "tight" to the body of the car, thats why cobra floor pannels get a little warmer. But is your exhaust aftermarket? and if so did someone install it for you. If thats the case, they coulda set it too close to your heatshields or sumthin.

If it bugs you this much..I'll be happy to take it off your hands.
![]() I'm pretty sure you can find better heat shields somewhere on the interweb to help with it. You may need to get a new shifter handle to help with the heat of that. I've heard of guys doin that because it just gets too hot for them. |

Inter......web? Is this a new thingy? Me likey!
Chances are there may have been a heat shield that fell off the car or was never replaced after mechanical work. Shouldn't be a tough fix.

Thanks guys, this gives me an idea of where to start. I just had the Tranny fluid replaced and was worried something happened and the Tranny was getting to hot but the heat shields make more sense. Appreciate it.

is your exhaust aftermarket tho? Because if its stainless steel, it shouldnt get that hot you kno... but if its chrome or sumthin else it gets helle hot... if its not ur heatshield and you have a midpipe thats not stainless then thats most def your problem. My uncle has a fox body and put a chrome H-pipe on and that god sooooo hot, then he switched to stainless steel 409 i believe and it wasnt a problem anymore

I have full Bassani setup, Catted X and Catbacks, they are not stainless. But thanks for that. I am putting in Long tubes this week so everything is getting swapped out, will ask for stainless to reduce the heat ( yeah cost more but worth it to not have sweaty feet LOL ) and have them check the heat shield. Will post what the out come is.

you could look into some heat wrap for your exhaust as well...
