IAC delete?


Has anyone tried to delete the IAC on the 4.6 and use the TB set screw to control idle? If so, what all should be taken into consideration? Can the "memory" of the IAC be erased from the computer with a tune?

Ok Dora. I just called the "shop owner" and he said that as far as he knows, it CAN NOT just be deleted. However, he said that there must be a "way" around it with the proper tune and a small adjustment. He told me he would take care of it when I bring him the car but he's never done it before or seen it done. I specified I was looking at the EBrock intake, so he knows what I'm talking about. His dyno is still not up yet, it will be by next week. He also recommended that the EGR don't be deleted or it will kill some power with the cams and affect fuel economy even more.

I got rid of my EGR and nothing changed. It actually helped my car run a little smoother. I also heard it helps keep carbon build up down. Just make sure you use a tuner and shut of the sensors and close up all the vacuum lines and that hole in the engine.
For the IAC. Just try some gasket material and drill smaller holes and put that in between the IAC and the T-body. It would result in the same thing. Did that too and my RPMs drop nice and quick. It sounds pretty cool too. But I've never heard of anyone just getting rid of it....sounds weird.

my buddy did it on his 06 f150, runs fine but they also have a computer controlled TB

There are "IAC restrictors" that you can buy on Ebay, me and a few other guys on this site have bought them to get our rpms to "drop down quicker."

Like AnglicoGT98 said, all that it is supplied is a cut-out piece of Mr. Gasket with small holes drilled in it. It was only about $12 so I got it, but I didn't notice any difference. I even took before and after video of my tach revving and didn't see the difference when reviewing them on the computer.

You don't understand. I don't care about the hanging RPM's. I was just trying to get rid of the IAC so I wouldn't have to fabricate something for it to be bolted to on the new intake.

With fabrication it should be ok. Everyone here is thinking restrictors to keep hot air from coming back into the intake via EGR and IAC restrictor to choke the engine and keep the idle down.

What we are looking for is a way to do without it to make the Ebrock intake work without the IAC. It looks like something will need a custom fab on that unit. I'll find out more.

gills99stang....You might want to play with te size of the holes from that IAC restrictor. The smaller hole will make the drop faster but you dont want to go too extreme. The hole on yours was probably just too big.

Now I see why you want to get rid of the IAC. I just wasn't understanding the new manifold part. You can't shut off the IAC with a handheld tuner?? I thought you could delete the IAC and the EGR.

just take the bitch off and hide the wires! lol. i tried deleting mine but it tripped the cel. i'm sure theres a way though. if you have to just keep it plugged into the wire but dont hook connect it to the intake. you can probably stash it in the fenderwell if you have to. i mean thats a half assed way to do it but it might be better than fabbing your new intake.
