EGR Delete

Okay, so when I do my head swap and everything, I plan on deleteing my EGR. If anybody could help me out and give me everything I need to do and what I will need to buy. Thanks a lot!

I think I will get better responce in here even though I have a 96 GT!

Randy in parts at modulardepot.com will have what you need. The kit is around $12.

All you need is some gasket material, a piece of rubber, and a small illuminmun plate all cut the same diamond shape where the EGR is hooked up to and put that in place of the EGR. You'll need to disconnect that steel hose that runs to the exhaust manifold and block it off down there with a piping end cap the same size. Make sure you close off all the vacuum lines that ran from the EGR (there should be 2 or 3 small lines). Then use a handheld tuner to shut of the EGR sensors. That about does it. That mod makes the engine look alot cleaner!

what about the smog pump? do you leave it in place and just put a cap over where the hose from the egr went? i would think it would be ok to leave it and do this?

Egr delete plate, i think upr has them for 10-15 bucks and then some sort of plug to thread into the header to plug up where the egr tube went, then any vacuum lines that might need plugged and a tune.

I'm curious as to why you would do this.

Is there a power gain to be had? Or is this just to clean up the engine bay?

My knowledge of the EGR is that it only opens under light load when the engine is warm, and has a net effect of increasing fuel economy. It's the only peice of emissions equipment I'm aware of that (I thought) had no negative effects.

I bought that kit, pretty good. I also made my own EGR delete with a brass 5/8 pipe cap and a piece of stainless flatstock and some gasket material.

The tune just needs to turn of the cel. I haven't seen any cars react different during tuning and I with the delete I still got 28mpg with my supercharger.

I know people will regurgitate the Wiki definitions eventually of the need for an egr and the science makes sense but still doesn't change my results.

Removing it without a tune will cause parts throttle detonation. The added NOX to the cylinder actually allows the computer to run more timing and a better burn. Cosmetics is the only logical reason to remove it.

You can get everything you need from Home Depot. I just cut out my own plate out of thick aluminum and bought some rubber caps to block the vacuum lines. Then just shut it off in your tuner.

newer diablo's don't have the ability to shut off emission equiptment. you need to get a custom tune or find a older non-upgraded diablo.

Matt shouldn't have to worry about disabling anything as he swapped in a 351 and is not using the stock ECU.

do not delete your EGR, you will see 0 power gains, none at all, period. and can help cause your motor to detonate, EGR can help prevent this, do yourself a favor, keep the EGR
