Mach 1 Hood

Just curious. What all would be involved in using the Mach 1 hood without the shaker? Or is there an aftermarket hood that looks just like the Mach hood sans the shaker?

T_rail94 April 4th, 2013 05:55 PM

Sadly, there aren't any Mach 1 hoods out there without the hole for the shaker. And the aftermarket Mach hoods are expensive as FAWWWWWWK.

I imagine it would be cheaper to buy a shaker than to delete that hole in the hood.

Don't shoot the messenger!

Do you mean the shaker or the plastic piece? Because the shaker if OEM quality.

The cdc kit for our cars didn't give you a complete hood. You had to remove the fake hood scoop and do some cutting and there is a mounting bracket that goes on top of your plenum and alternator that's where the shaker mounts. You also have to cut the factory airbox for that tube that routes to it. As far as the factory cut hood the kit comes with that plastic looking piece that some ppl paint to color match their car it mounts on top of your factory hood and covers the hole that was cut. In short its a quality piece imo.

I ordered a hood from a site similar to that for almost the same price bc the plastic piece from my cdc kit that covered my factory hood came flying off when I had my car over seas. So instead of ordering another applique I just ordered an aftermarket mach 1 hood and had it painted at a shop as soon as my car was shipped back. Imo its a quality piece I haven't had any issues with it so far. the fitment of the shaker would be better if it was the actual mach1 shaker with the larger tray at the bottom and not the cdc shaker. That can be fixed with time and fab though.

Where'd you get your hood from? I'd only want the hood, not the shaker.

It was a site called carpartswholesale if i remember correctly. Something like that. It was a site just like the link I posted in that response and then deleted and then you reposted. It was about $268 back in late 2008 when I ordered it. It came in primer grey.

found the site http://www.carpartswholesale.com/

Anyone tried putting a GT scoop over the hole in the mach hood? I know its bigger but it still might look pretty good, been planning on trying it myself but haven't found anyone around here with a extra mach hood laying around.

The hood just looks like a v6 hood in the picture on both links. It's the actual product different than the picture? And what is the CDC shaker?

Just an unknowledgable personal chiming in for knowledge. So the Mach 1 shaker is considered functional ram air correct? Forgive the wrong terms if they are wrong lol. What kind of gains do you get from what I think is a pretty big functional scoop? Cooling mostly?

This is a CDC/Classic design concept shaker the complete kit Mustang Shaker System (1999-04) - Classic Design Concepts Store

This is the piece that came flying off when I was going over 130 mph legally for a long period of time in Germany. Instead of ordering another one I decided to go with a hood instead. Mustang Shaker Applique Kit (1999-04) - Classic Design Concepts Store

I ordered that hood back in late 2008 from that site while I was in Germany since I was getting ready to leave there so I had it shipped to my parents house in Georgia. All of those pictures look similar if one plans on ordering it and has questions about it it may be best to call them but they have different part numbers on them. This is the hood I ordered from that site pictured below.

Wondered this as well.

Pretty much. You won't see big gains from an air intake on an N/A motor vs. one that is boosted.

Other than that, it looks bad ass. But I don't want to drop $800 on the shaker, hence why I want just the Mach hood.

Yeah you won't see any huge gains from it it does route air to the airbox and if you pop the hood and hold something like a piece a paper and inch or two in front of the opening of the shaker and turn the throttle with your hand it will pull towards the opening on the shaker. I like the looks of it personally and it was one of the first things I did to my car when I got it. I just didn't care to much for the fake hood scoop the price has been the same since like 2005 that's when I ordered my shaker kit. Got the hood years later though for reasons already explained.
