160 or 180 degree thermostat question?


i was wondering what would be best for my 2000 4.6 stang, what thermostat is the best for the car 160 or 180 degree???? or is it better to not have one at all and just leave it stock?

i have a 160 in my car, modulars run better when warm, the temp just means itll ope sooner

160 or 180 will just let the coolant go throgh the block faster keeping it cooler so basiclly your moter will cooler.

i think it depends where you live. if it gets cold as crap go 180 but if its alllllwwaaays hot like here in florida, id say 160.

I live in FL and 160 was still too cold... 180 is the best for these mod motors, well unless you want to get a tune just to run a 160 thermostat... it isn't worth it in my opinion just save all the hassle and use 180.

changing the t-stat isnt gonna yield you any HP, leave it alone.

I agree that it wont give any more power. I changed mine because it was cheap and I was already in there!

Leave it stock....
The OBD2 system has rendered that mod mostly useless.
However if you insist, a 180 probably won't cause any problems but a 160 will throw codes almost for sure.

Personally, the cooling system on the 4.6 is a cantankerous beast and can be very difficult to bleed air out of so I tend to leave it alone except for the yearly flush and fill.
The last thing you need in one of these motors is hot pockets of air.
