I have my 4th top out at 117mph, not recommended, but doable. Raised limiter and now with the cams and springs.... OMG, I see it coming.

Excellent write up, I will most likely look into swapping my 4.10 for 3.73... Getting up to 6800-7000 too fast and can't imagine when I start spraying again, which will be tomorrow.

Thanks for doing all those calcs. That's good information. I'm curious where 3.55s fall into it as well. I'll pay the 5 bucks...

I have a stock 99 GT and at 80mph in 5th I'm at 2400 rpm. According to the chart I should be about 300 rpm lower. Is there something wrong with my car?

Tire and rim size may not be identical to what was used for the calculation. Different tire manufacturers sizes are not always identical. And then there is the speedo calibration issue. So, there are a few variables.

+1 The gear ratio in fifth for the T-45 is 0.67, for the T-3650 it's 0.62.

I hate to bring up a really old thread but this info is useful and can provide insight to those deciding between gears.
On a side note I have seen a little over 4400rpm in 5th gear in my car. Does that mean I was traveling above 150 considering 5th gear at 4000rpm should be 150mph?

It's hard to do fifth gear comparisons. 4:10s with a T-3650 transmission show almost the same rpms in fifth at any given speed as 3.73s with a T-45 transmission. The T-3650 has a fifth gear ratio of .62:1. The T-45's is .67:1. I think four in an auto is the same as a T-45s fifth.

Edit: My 2000 GT at 75 mph is running 2530 rpms. (T-45 with 3.73s). A 2002 GT with 4.10s will be running at 2570 rpms. At 60 mph there is only a 30 rpm difference. My 2000 GT is slightly lower than 2000 rpms. The 2002 GT is slightly above. It's so close (1.5% difference) that both would claim to be running 2000 rpms at 60 mph.

According to wikipedia, the T45 and 3650 have the same exact 5th gear ratio in 2v cars. It's the mach 1 (and cobra?) that had the lower .62 overdrive gearing in 5th. I assume that was to compensate a bit for the factory 3.55 rear.

From wikipedia

TR-3650 used in the 2001-2004 Ford Mustang GT

* 1st: 3.380:1
* 2nd: 2.000:1
* 3rd: 1.320:1
* 4th: 1.000:1
* 5th: 0.670:1 (used on 01-04 with 3.27:1 final drive)
* 5th: 0.620:1 (used in 03-04 with 3.55:1 final drive, Mach1)
* Rev: 3.380:1

I don't know. CliffyK is a tech guru and he uses .62:1 for his 2003 Mustang GT's T3650 (reference the Paladinmicro link above). I've also compared rpms with guys who have T-3650s and 4.10s. The results were what I wrote. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this.
