Paint Matching

My mustang had a complete paint job 2 years ago, I wanna be able to match the paint for body work but is there a way to find out exactly what my paint is made up of so I could mix it myself? Someone told me I could take the fuel door off and have it analyzed by some machine but obviously thats an incomplete suggestion.

Go to a dealer and get them to tell you the paint code for your car.

Just find a store that sells automotive paint and supplies..they may charge you for the service...take them the car or a piece that you want
the color code for...down here they charge around $50 for use of their
spectrum-analizer unless you buy paint or supplies from them...
ex. of a store---sherwin - williams--the house paint store also has some special stores that sell auto motive paint....later

the machine is a spectrophotomer , used by paint and ink makers. it will read the pignments used in your paint and identify them however the problem is that there are too many variables involved in mixing color for you to get the exact same color. if the color of your car is white or a light color you will never get a 100% match, with darker colors the difference is less noticable. i would not recommend trying to make the color yourself, find your self a good autobody shop , stay away from the $200 clowns , remember you get what you pay for !!
