Buying a Mustang process

Hi guys!I`m new here and I will soon be in the process of buying my first Mustang during the winter or next summer. I plan to buy a 1999-2004 convertible Mustang GT and I just want know if there is anything I should know let`say about a year in particular...Like if I should avoid a certain year in or if they are all good no exeptions. I also have a question...I don't know about the States but here in Canada it seems to be very hard to find a WHITE convertible *** 5 speeds manual*** Mustang. White ones are already hard to find, but most of them are automatic...Am I just unlucky or what?? Also, if I happen to be lucky enough to find a convertible one at a good price, is the 2001 Mustang Cobra would be a good buy for future mods or should it be avoided?? Thanks for all the knowledge I acquired from you guys in the couple last months.(By the way, english is not my first language, I'm a french Canadian so don't be too hard on me with the mistakes I could make :wink )

Mustangs rules!!!

Most years 99-04 seem to be fine, no major problems that i'm aware of. Just make sure when you go to purchase a Mustang, you check everything very carefully for signs of abuse or neglect etc. As far as white, I don't know lol. I'm not a big fan of white, only because keeping them clean is a royal pain in the ass. If you can find one for a great price, and that has no signs of abuse or whatever, then the 2001 Cobra is a great buy. The same goes for the GT if you decide on one of them instead. Good luck, have fun shopping around, happy modding, and enjoy these boards. Lots of great people, with even better informative material, to help you out with your decisions. Enjoy!

Thanks for that quick answer my friend, I took good note of that piece of advice and I'll rememer it when the time will come but how exactly can I see if the car has been abused beside the obvious cosmetics signs??

Test drive it, look under the hood, under the car, see how things look basically, and how well it runs. Also see if they have any maint. reports, to see whats been done, and when etc.

Yes I do my friend, I would drive the car only during summertime and summer is really good where I live. I don`t close the door for a hard top though. I`ll probably have to rent one for a couple days to see if my wife and kids would like and tolerate the wind on the highway since this is mostly what I do. I don`t want to buy one and then have to sell it because I always have to drive with the top on... We`ll see!!

Either way, keep us updated on whatever you choose to buy, and be sure to post up some pics.

I like 01 and up Stangs. They got the better headlights, hood scoop, and transmission.

That`s exactly the type of info I`m looking for...So there is a difference in the tranny?? I noticed that the hood scoop is higher on 2001+ but I didn`t noticed that there was a difference in the lights...what it it exactly?? The shape of the light itself or the bulb??

:homo I'd get a Mach I if I had it to over again. Convertibles are heavier than hardtops and the top down thing wears thin pretty quick for most people. Plus there is the leaking issue. If you are going to spend money on a car that you really wanted allthis time get the best one you can afford. In this order:
03-04 Cobra
Mach I
99-01 Cobra
Bullitt
05 GT
01-04 GT

If you get something else you better have found one hell of a deal. LOL

Avoid the 00 and 1st half of the 01's. They are great cars but had more problems then the late 01's to 04's. The verts are heavier and if you are going to mod her you have to remeber the exhaust will be much more noticable in it and if you get loud exhaust expect to play your tunes at hip hop teenager levels.

Thanks for the tip bro!! That`s brings me a hell of a concern to be honest...I think i`ll do a little survey to try to find out the satisfaction rate among the convertibles owner on MM so I can make a better decision. If a decide so, I could put the extra money I planned to put on a convertible on a better or younger car like a Mach for example...
