Engine Swapping
Just a broad question about engine replacement. If I wanted to pull out my engine and tranny in one piece with an engine crane, bolt the tranny to a crate engine and drop it in could I do at least most of this without the car on a lift? I can disconnect the drive shaft and let it sit still connected to the rear end right? Is this something I should probably leave to a mechanic? Answer is probably yes but Im always looking to see what I can get done myself with the tools I have.

putting an engine in is no easy task,... Older old school carbuerated v8s are easier but there is so many computers, wiring, connections etc to be made as well as tuning,. timing or wutever else necessary to have a propperly running engine. It took my dad and i almost a month ....food for thought
