S281 SC needs enough oomph to hit 12s in high altitude
What do I need to hit 12s @ 5000 ft?
Can the Saleen stuff be improved upon? Bigger TB? FMU? Chip tuner? Smaller pulley? Exhaust & headers? Am I going to have fuel delivery issues at that power level? Will I have clutch issues at that power level? I'm new to the whole modern muscle car thing but i'm good with a wrench and i'm not afraid to tear into it. I have alot of questions but I look forward to learning about the car. Thanks in advance. |

we need more info. wat is done to it so far? all of those would def help. id say do your exhaust and if its s/c do a pulley swap and def do the other breathing mods like cia and throttle body and all that. does it have the stock clutch and how much power does it make right now. a tuner is also always a good idea

What year?
I think the blower pre-2004 was not as good as the 2004... I dont see why it would not hit 12's with a sticky tire and gears...But I amy be wrong |

Smaller pulley, tune, and good tires should get you there pretty easy. With gears mid 12's shouldn't be a problem. I've seen high 11's out of those cars with bolt-ons and an itty bitty pulley.

It's a 2003, stock everything except for smaller pulley that's supposed to make 8 psi. I could budget a few thousand bucks...ie: 2500-3500 $$
At this altitude it's a high 13 low 14 car at best on street tires. I've watched LS powered F bodies run low 14s all day...altitude sucks. |

You know, come to think of it, cars are really slow in altitude... like sometimes more than a second slower. So for him to run 12's is about as hard as us running 11's.

So, basic breathing mods: cold air intake, bigger TB, headers, off road H/X pipes, o2 simulators, exhaust and a tuner should do it for S281 SC?
What tuner would you all recommend? The car's getting a baseline next week w/ just the smaller pulley, so I guess i'll know if it has fuel delivery issues. |

You can always pick up alot of power on a F/I car with breathing and exhaling mods...
SCT XCal2 FTW... |

I live around mile high city, (no that is not a stoner pun) Denver, Colorado. Bandimere Speedway is a huge place that a lot of top fuelers and funny cars come to for competitions. Driving up there is like all of you southerners driving up Clingmans Dome or Mount Washington. It doesn't really matter much once you get a tune for the altitude though. The air is a lot thinner but if you compensate your tune and intake for it enough you can run about the same times, but your MPH will most likely be a little higher. Less resistance in the air will allow you to accelerate better at higher speeds. For example, if you golf down in Georgia, say your drive averages about 200 yards. Your probably going to hit it 250 yards or more up here in Colorado. Just my 2 cents!! |
