Transmission


Does anybody know what I have to replace when my car wont go into 4th gear it keeps popping out? Only when I get it up to 3000 rpms and slam it into 4th it will stay. I heard somebody say something about synchros or something. Can I get some help please? Thanks by the way it is a 04 mustang gt 17000 miles on it

You got it bud, the Synchros. Not easily done by the amateur, tech required on that one...

ok I figured it would not be easy. Do happen to know an estimate of some kind of hard they are going to hit my pockets for?

yeah when I 1st got her I played around a lot Im just reaping what I sowed.

You would have really had to beat on that thing. I thought in Europe Mustangs were called Pumas?

I dont know about the puma thing but as for the gears. I was trying to speedshift... and failed miserably.

I tried that ONCE and before I got my MGW I didn't get it back in gear quick enough and the RPMs went too high and when I did get it in gear the car went sideways. After seeing my life pass before my eyes, I decided power shifting wasn't that important.

im in a similar boat here.... i've powershifted mine hard and often for the past 30,000 miles, and finally bent a clutch fork i believe

i can shift into 2 fine with normal driving, but it rejects a powershift into 2nd 2/3 times now

This is why an after market shifter that comes with stops is a good idea.

This is why an after market shifter that comes with stops is a good idea.
With the 3650 you are supposed to take the stop out of an aftermarket shifter. The stops are built into the transmission.
